Hotel Girasole
Ranked #48 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Reviewed 29 October 2011

Having decided to go back again almost as soon as we got home last year, because it had been so relaxing, we were not disappointed this year. We were greeted like long lost friends by Rita, the management and their staff.
This is a 3-Star hotel and the rooms were good at that standard. I preferred our room on the 2nd floor last year because it had a better view of the bay, but a room on the first floor is a relief after you have walked back from Sorrento in the heat.
The breakfasts were very nice with a good cold selection of food from cereals to cooked meats.
The pool, set in the lovely citrus orchard, is very relaxing and good snacks are available at lunchtime until 3pm.
The hotel is a 20 minute walk from Sorrento centre but we never found that a problem, though it may be for older guests. The pavement is very narrow near the hotel but you can cross the road near the chapel whilst you can still see both ways !
This year we made more use of the station at Sant'Agnello for trips to Roman sites towards Naples - Pompeii, Herculaneum & Stabiae. We also found one or two reasonable restaurants in Sant'Agnello too.
Without wanting to sound as though we are in a rut, we would certainly go back to the Girasole for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Warm and welcoming hosts that will do anything to make your stay comfortable. The hotel is a little further than most from the town centre but as you know you eat and drink a lot more, so the walk does one good. Its safe and an easy walk too. The best is that a few restaurants pick you up and drop you back after a meal with them. Beds comfy, views to Vesusvius, nice terrace and pool area. Train station a 10 min walk.

Room Tip: Ask to see Vesusvius

we stayed here last month for two weeks and really enjoyed it. Yes it is a 20 minute walk into
Sorrento but that wasn't a problem and there are many places on the way for both food and drink as an alternative to town. San Agnello was a 10 minute walk in the other direction although it is much more limited. The hotel has a lovely pool and was a welcome alternative on days when we took a break from sightseeing. Our room was on the road side and we didn't have a problem with that. In fact we found it quite good to hear / see the traffic outside the hotel ( it is that sort of place, which you will understand if you go there) when we were getting ready to go out, which was the only time we spent in the room other than sleeping, when the traffic didn't bother us at all.
Breakfast in the hotel was fine, sitting outside, and getting a sunbed or deckchair by the pool was never a problem (3 euros each for a bed, deckchairs free)
2 euros 50 for a 330ml bottle of Peroni by the pool was reasonable too.
Rooms were good although the shower area was very small, but overall it was good value and we wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend to others.
Sorrento itself and all the other places to see in the area including Naples were great and we had a fantastic holiday using the Girasole as a base, and taking the train (from San Agnello 10 minutes away) or the bus or walking to the Marina to get ourselves around.

Room Tip: many people request rooms facing Vesuvius but for £250 for the fornight it wasn't worth it and w...

Stayed in the girasole for 1 week in September, the hotel is spotless and the balcony view overlooking the gardens was superb what more could you want , versuvius to the left and the mountain regions ahead, service was second to none , the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast was especially nice and the dining room leading onto the lovely patio and gardens was the ideal setting for brekkie and evening drinks, My husband and i will definitely return to this hotel. Thank you to all at Girasole for making our stay extra special

Room Tip: the rooms overlooking the gardens are a great choice

This is a lovely 3 star family run hotel with a personal touch & good attention to detail. We paid extra for a room with a view but when we arrived discovered our room was directly over the restaurant roof & thus didn't have much of a view. However, it is possible that our Tour Operator perhaps did not pass on our request to the hotel, & the owner Rita, moved us to a much better room as soon as she could. All staff were very helpful & friendly & the hotel was spotlessly clean. Typical continental buffet breakfast. Wonderful food at the Enchanted Garden evening. Beds a little hard for me but I'm very fussy! Make sure you get a room away from the road - it's worth the extra money for sure. Yes, a bit of a scary, noisy walk into Sorrento but that's all part of the experience of being abroad!! I would definitely recommend this hotel & would love to return one day.

Room Tip: Ask for a high-level room away from the road - then not only will you get some peace & quiet but...
