Just got back from spending 8 days at the Miramare.... had a wonderful time & would not hesitate to recommend this tranquil, elegant ex-italian villa with outstanding views (only 26 rooms too). It was a pleasure coming back to sit out on our large private garden terrace , cold glass of wine in hand , set well back from the road & watch the world go by from an elevated position with an excellent view of Vesuvius straight ahead & to the right the bay of Sorrento.

All the staff were friendly & the reception provided useful information and booked anything we wanted. We'd recommend the day trip to Capri - only 17 people on lovely boat , chance to swim, informal lunch & picked up & returned to the hotel with useful guide - looked after from beginning to end & so relaxing ! (Other option is to queue all day long with the hundreds of other tourists for the main hydrofoil)

The hotel's communal areas are light, tranquil areas. The breakfast room overlooked the bay through french doors & you could choose to sit outside for breakfast which we did most mornings. The garden & small pool areas were clean & well kept with flowers, shrubs & olive trees close to the garden studio (complete with terrace) we stayed in. (remember your insect repellent). There was also a large roof terrace which was lovely to relax on.
Inside the high ceilinged airy room, furnishings were dark wood in keeping with the style however this made the rooms dark when the shutters, & french windows were closed but kept the sound of the traffic out.The small kitchenette was useful (sink, microwave, hob, fridge, cutlery & crockery) if you wanted to use it ...some wine glasses would have been useful though the bar obliged. The huge bed was so comfortable. The rooms were cleaned & towels changed daily with complimentary toiletries also provided .

The walk into Sorrento was only 10 - 15 minutes- & yes the road is busy- (welcome to Sorrento- there's traffic everywhere) but to have those views walking in both directions was terrific & helped work off all the wonderful seafood pastas we ate at the restaurants in Marine Grande..... some tourists never venture past the centre & so many hotels open out directly onto the road with balconies overhanging the traffic....seeing these we were glad that we had chosen to stay at the Miramare .

Room for improvement...the breakfast ticked all the boxes for what it provided (eg cereal , yogurt, fruit, bread, jams etc) & the fresh pastries/ bread were refilled regularly however agree with previous review ... tinned fruit (ahhg) & no choice of cheese / ham was disappointing - giving no variety to the breakfasts.

If you want to get away from tourists then a walk up via Capodimonte (opposite the camping sign) walking up towards the President hotel brings you to all the lemon & orange groves, & we actually continued & walked over the hill to the village of Masse Lubrense & then on to the wonderful small port there & caught the bus back. Just ensure you have a reasonable map.Public transport train/ bus very cheap & easy to catch to all the sites( Pompei, Ercolaneum, Amalfi drive) just be prepared to be patient & to queue. Taxi 21 euros to the train station one way from the hotel...expensive for 2 Km drive.
Hotel Miramare was a delight - thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view & garden terrace worth paying extra for (we had room 405 - which was the same as rooms 401 - 404).

We have just arrived back from our break at the miramare , first thing regarding reviews about \ THE CORNER OF DEATH \ when you leave the entrance of the hotel you have to walk for 10 seconds and your on a foot path which goes all the way into serronto so its not an issue to worry about . walking into sorrento takes about 10 mins.We found the miramare to be a really good hotel with big spacious rooms and really friendly staff , the views from the pool area are breath taking we spent a few hours there on our 2nd day and had the pool to ourselves the whole time . We stayed in room 108 which had a huge balcony and views of the bay of napels and mount vesuvius images that will stay with you forever . i would reccomend this hotel without hesitation

Room Tip: pay a bit extra for a sea view , its worth it

We stayed here for 9 nights so had plenty of opportunity to make an assessment. We agree with others that the staff are very helpful and that the hotel is very clean and is handy for walking into Sorrento. We had a studio room which was large and airy and had the added advantage of a kitchenette as the area is very expensive for dining out every night! We had a balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius--a fabulous view. The road beneath was however very noisy for sitting out for any prolonged period but with the french doors and shutters closed, this didn't prevent us sleeping well. Our biggest disappointment was the breakfast which offered no choice--the cheese and ham were pre--plated and there was no variety--boiled eggs would have been a welcome addition and not take very much preparation. Also we were disappointed that in a region with such wonderful fresh fruit , tinned fruit was used--even a bowl of fresh fruit could have been offered if prepared fresh fruit provide a staffing problem. The nice lady on reception explained that there was little room for cooking and preparation but we did think there were under-utilised spaces that could have been used.
Having said this we enjoyed our stay and felt that the hotel is well-situated for exploring the Amalfi Coast.

Room Tip: maybe the garden rooms at the back as the hotel is situated on a busy road. However the kitchenette was useful--I don't know whether they are available at the back.Advantage of our studio room -large and high, with balcony with lovely view and good size bathroom, good A.C.

We did upgrade our room for a seaview and we were given the garden terrace which had a fabulous view of the bay. We were very impressed with the service of this hotel, the reception staff were very courteous and gave us good information regarding the tours, we visited Capri which is pretty, but we did prefer Amalfi and we also took in the tour of Vesuvius & Herculaneum which was a full day. The hotel pool was a added bonus especially with the hot weather. The road outside the hotel can be rather daunting but don't let this put you off, the walk into town is worth it, in particular on the way down you pass the Taverna Sorrentina (Sweet Dreams) well worth a visit their pasta and pizza's are great and well recommended. All in all we had a fabulous two weeks at Hotel Miramare and would definately come again.

Room Tip: With regards to garden terrace be aware of Mosquitoes and take precautions such as using candles when sitting out on terrace.
