We stayed at this hotel after traveling through Paris, Zurich, Florence and Rome and this was just as good as any of the other hotels despite the rather critical reviews I've seen for the same time period. Reception could not have been more helpful at any time of our stay. Our room was beautiful - clean, quiet, stunning tiled floor and large. Slippers were provided and a real surprise - a bucket of ice and a bottle of sparkling wine was waiting for us as a welcome from the management. The gardens are just lovely - small but with a really clean (although chilly) pool. We took lunch on arrival the first day and it was an excellent price and very good quality. There were no children (other than one adorable toddler) so the whole feel was of a grown up and relaxed vibe with people just relaxing and reading on the sunbeds.
Breakfast was efficient and with just about every item you could think of available. Personally, I'm not into big breakfasts so Italian cheese, parma ham and fresh fruit suited me fine. There's also a whole table laden with different sorts of cakes, biscuits and pastries so that was very hard to resist!
Sorrento is a really busy place and there are a lot of tourist restaurants so it's really hard to decide where to eat. Having filled up at breakfast we never wanted lunch - just a cool beer - and so pushed the boat out and ate at much more upmarket restaurants than perhaps the hotel would have recommended. I'd suggest that you do the research regarding restaurants and book up either before you leave, or on arrival, to avoid the tourist traps.
Also if you're planning to go to Amalfi there is only one bus route and the wait if you get there around 10.00am is nearly an hour and a half as there are so many people and the buses run every half an hour. So eat breakfast early and get to the bus stop by about 8.30am to be sure of a ride. The trip apparently takes about two hours due to the amount of traffic on the narrow - and only - road, but we never got there!
