This year I went on holiday with my parents my first in years. I stayed in a single room and whilst it was very clean and had a great view I felt the bed was quite hard. My room only had a shower and again it was very clean however I was let down because there was no shelf or shelving near the shower to put toiletries and the hairdryer was very bad (I noticed others in the hotel with damp hair which meant it wasn't only my room.)
Aside from those small points I found the hotel very clean, spacious and staff very friendly and helpful.
Although could be seen a bit dated, the silver service type service at the restaurant and welcoming staff made the experience enjoyable. They may not give you much choice in set menu and only serve scrambled eggs as the only option for a cooked breakfast and Mostly tinned fruits but they took in consideration if you had an allergy.
The pool and poolside again very clean although they could highlight the step in the actual swimming pool itself. The poolside barman is very friendly and has his own 'mint' cocktail that enjoyed very much.
The hotel has a shuttle bus that comes from 9 to about 12 and 1-10:30 You need to get there around the time or just before departure because he doesn't wait although of its very crowded like the 10:30Pm bus back from Sorrento he'd come straight back after dropping people off.

I enjoyed my stay very much and it has great potential. It just needs updating

Room Tip: Bring your own hairdryer!

Good rooms, great pool, fantastic base for Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius.
Food was generally good with a variety suitable for most people at dinner and an abundant breakfast- if you want gourmet you must expect to pay gourmet prices! We had several snack lunches at the Bar- also very good and reasonably priced. All waiting and bar staff were friendly and efficient.
The pool was very pleasant with several places for sunbeds, including a lovely quieter shaded garden area. The views from the hotel are amazing!
We were a family party of six, aged from sixteen to fifty- four and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We spent very little time in our room- there is so much to do!

I stayed at the Hotel Vesuvio with my wife and daughter in the first week of August 2015. The hotel had a good mix of guests coming from a range of countries. Most guests were either couples or young families.

We stayed in a triple room on the fourth floor with a sea view. The room was spacious, with a proper built in wardrobe, a safe big enough to take an iPad with a child’s protective cover, a fridge that you could store your own stuff in and a SKY TV showing Italian television. The television didn’t have a pay per view movie channel which was a shame but it did have a Disney Channel in English, which meant we could still watch Peppa Pig. The beds were very comfortable and in good condition. The air conditioning was effective and simple to use. The floor was tiled and very clean.

The balcony gave us a view of Naples Bay and the Volcano. You could watch all the boats leave port in the morning and return again in the evening, their wakes criss crossing on the sea. At night you could also watch all the lights twinkling around the bay as you nursed your drink of choice.

The bathroom was nicely decorated, spacious and had both a fixed shower on the wall and a hand held shower head, which made bath time easy. There was a constant supply of hot water.

All in all the room was very good. We managed with the single power point but a second would have been better. We all have a lot more devices these days which constantly need recharging.

House keeping was done by mature women who cleaned rooms properly. Our own maid was even prepared to spend some time chatting with our daughter. When residents left the hotel we could see how well rooms were taken a part and cleaned. We always had a fresh supply of clean towels and toilet rolls.

Your not going to get a cooked breakfast at the Vesuvio. What you are going to get is a great view, and an ever ending supply of cereal, fruit juice, coffee and tea, bread rolls, yogurt, pastries and scrambled eggs. You can also order boiled eggs. The breakfast is popular with guests and staff are keen to get you what you want. If you want a cooked breakfast in the morning visit the Fauno Bar in the main square of town.

The pool is great. It has a toddler pool which goes from ankle depth to about three feet, a jacuzzi and a larger pool for proper swimming and play. There is a lot of space around the pool and finding a sun bed was easy. There wasn’t much sun bed reserving going on which is always a good thing.

The pool bar offered reasonably priced drinks and ice creams served by friendly staff. There was also a large shaded area to take a break from the sun.

Lunch was served under the shade next to the pool which meant you could people watch as you enjoyed your food. The lunch menu offered a nice choice of hot and cold food again at reasonable prices. The only thing that let lunch down was that orders were only taken by one person which really slowed things down. Also, on our last day they wouldn’t budge on their opening time of 12:30 to make us a sandwich, as we were leaving the hotel at 13:00.

The main bar in the hotel was very spacious with both an indoor seating area and a massive balcony. The bar staff were very friendly and clearly could make you any drink you wanted without batting an eye. At night the hotel laid on free subtle entertainment, some piano playing and singing. The view from the balcony at night really was very good.

The hotel organised an airport transport for us before we arrived costing 100 Euros each way. I organised this using the communications mechanism on Booking.com. The hotel is located out of town and you shouldn’t even contemplate walking, as in places there is no footpath and there are Italians driving on the roads. The hotel offers an excellent free transfer service on a 40 seater bus. The bus will get you into town in the morning and back to the hotel in the evening but stops running in the middle of the day. So it runs for about 6 times and the start and end of each day. The rest of the time you will need to use Taxis. A Taxi in Sorrento will cost you between 20 and 25 Euros to travel each way. Absolutely shocking and the local council should get these prices reduced. After a week, I worked out that even the taxi drivers thought their prices were very high. On occasions, when the taxi meter read 25 euros I asked if they would take 20 euros and they always said yes.

I think reception is the most difficult area of a hotel to staff. In the Vesuvio reception, the female staff were pretty and the male staff were grumpy and I never felt that anyone in reception was really that bothered. They always answered my questions, but it was like getting blood from a stone. If the reception staff tried just a little harder it would make a big difference to the service they offer. The hotel could probably benefit from a full time concierge.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay at the Vesuvio and would recommend it to any family wishing to stay in Sorrento. A spacious hotel with a great swimming pool.

Room Tip: Get yourself a sea view.

We (family of 5) stayed here for one night as part of a driving holiday in Italy. It is a big hotel, with wonderful views over the bay, as many have mentioned. One of our rooms had this view (wow factor), one did not but both were big and well furnished and both had nice large bathrooms. The pool was very nice too, if quite busy. The hotel has a touch of faded glory about it but we quite like that. Lots of big spaces with not many people in them and a large terrace overlooking the bay, perfect for an evening beer or two. Breakfast was very nice (lots of choice) in a very large dining area. Underground car parking was ok - spaces a bit tight (designed when cars were smaller!). Surprised at some of the negative comments on this site, we thought it was a really nice place, but it was quite expensive for just one night.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view overlooking the bay

Food/room/view: great
Hotel reception: sub par - overall stay was fabulous and exceeded expectations but my only concern was the sincerity of the hotel front desk (Salvatore). Missed hotel shuttle to city centre (which takes 5 minutes max) & took cab that cost 25EU. Tried to explain to Salvatore to inform guests about price and he could of cared less; said we were "unlucky" & wasn't his job to tell guest what it might cost. Too bad b/c the rest of the hotel is first class.
