If you want paella or something like it, you must make reservations one day up front. The food is OK, but it's cheap. The service is not so good. They seem to forget a lot.

We read about this place in a novel about a Valencian detective. Didn't realise it was real till we walked past it one day on our way to the beach at Valencia. Thinking the people hanging around outside were smokers having a quick ciggie, we waltzed in and sat at an empty table. The place was heaving. We were quickly ejected by the waitress who pointed out the table was reserved and there was a queue outside. Ooops.

A year later, we went back out of season and mid-week thinking it would be quieter and we'd not have to queue too long. Alas, we found the place closed and a notice on the door saying they had moved. Huge disappointment. We had no idea where the new location was so we went to a neighbouring restaurant and had an excellent paella. We went for a walk afterwards and just happened to pass the new location of La Pascuala. Which was heaving and the queue was enormous.

So this year, we rang up in advance and made a reservation and it went like clockwork. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and handed the long list of sandwiches. We had a couple of large beers while we whittled down our selection. The service was good but not fast. And the place was oddly quiet despite being full to bursting. Normally Spanish bars and restaurants are chaotically loud. But you could almost hear a pin drop.

When our baguettes arrived, they were unbelievable. Crammed full to bursting with beautifully cooked, flavoursome food. And despite our best efforts, we could only manage half of one baguette each. But the staff are used to that so at the end we were handed two sheets of aluminium foil to wrap the leftovers which we took home and had for lunch the next day. By the time we left, the noise level had escalated to the normal jet-engine-taking-off level. Maybe up till then everyone was too busy chewing huge sandwiches to be able to talk.

For two large beers, two enormous sandwiches and a bottle of very nice white Rioja, it came to €27 which we thought was a bargain. We will definitely return and sample some more of the menu. Now we know the reservation system, it will hopefully be easier in future.

Have visited this establishment a few times, this is the first visit in the new premises. Be sure to make a reservation as it’s packed. +40 people waiting for a table at 14:00.
They have menus in English if needed. The sandwiches are amazing and worth the visit.
It’s a very authentic, loud which adds to the atmosphere.
The new premises are a lot bigger so no longer a crush in claustrophobic rooms.
11/10 well worth a visit or 2, or 3

We've visited this place and were amazed of how authentic it is. Noisy and funny people all around, took one gigantic horse burger that both of us couldn't finish. Highly recommended for travellers!"

We had brunch (almusar) there. The bocadellos were the best of all the ones we had! Even the baguette was especially good. We were there with family and friends and all around us were very happy people enjoying the wonderful fare of this establishment.
