Perfect location in the old part of Madrid. Clean, spacious apartment on 5th floor of traditional building. Beautiful bright well appointed lounge/diner with views up and down the Calle Mayor. Excellent internet connection, t.v works well as does the DVDs player.Hot water was plentiful and the shower was great. The only negative comment would be that the second bedroom has a small double and the roof fan doesn't work. There is a standing fan provided but it is noisy. ( I passed this on to the agent)A Fresh bakery & a supermarket are virtually opposite and a magnificent old building housing the market of San Miguel sells delicious Tapas to have there or ' a llavar' to take away.
The Plaza Mayor ( 2 mins walk)is a large old square surrounded on 4 sides by beautiful apartments. The square is lined by cafes offering everything from coffee to Tapas (small plates of food) and 'raciones' or sharing plates. Although expensive, it's excellent for people watching!
We walked everywhere easily. I thoroughly recommend this apartment.

“Bigger than expected, central and looks just as good as the pics!”

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location was really handy (shops, supermarkets, royal palace, plaza mayor, markets) and also the apartment lovely to spend time in, which was important because we were travelling with a three-year-old. The lady who met us on arrival gave lots and lots of helpful local information (in Spanish). Having the Jacuzzi bath was a real treat. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. The kitchen could have been slightly better equipped and the heating was a bit inefficient, and one clunking radiator, but I guess this is quite normal for an older apartment and a price worth paying for the character. We would definitely recommend and definitely use again.

“This was the heart & Sol of real Madrid for us.”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We 'lucked out' securing this fantastic apartment for our first time sojourn in Madrid.
What's more, we decided we were by far the oldest tourists on the road this last summer and that this apartment provided us with all things that we liked for ourselves - It was centrally located, it was a secured building and a beautiful 19century heritage building at that. There was an elevator- small but efficient, airconditioning (a prerequisite for summer in Madrid) and 2 wonderfully comfortable beds with good cotton sheets and towels ( any form of synthetic bedding is a huge negative in my opinion) The Apartment was clean, light, airy and contemporary with a great kitchen although with the San Miguel markets and a plethora of great eating places in the zone, such a kitchen became incidental to a certain extent.
Our host was most obliging and communicative which was greatly appreciated.
I am a food writer and radio broadcaster so imparted information from the owner meant that I was able to access what I was interested in from through that all important local knowledge.
This apartment ticked all our boxes so it's A triple A rating from us.
Thanks for making it all so easy.

“This apartment could be top-notch, however, it misses the mark.”

This apartment did not have the quality I expected from the listing. At the price and in its current condition I would only reluctantly and with reservations recommend it. It's difficult to give an overall review, there are both plusses and minuses:

Plusses: The owner and helpers are attentive and very friendly; it's a great location and building; there's good insulation from street noise in cool weather with windows, doors closed; nice views and light in main rooms; basics are satisfactory: the kitchen and bathrooms work, it's nice to have two separate toilets; nice to have the elevator; the apartment is clean and the hardwood floors attractive; there's lots of closet space; it is plenty roomy for a couple; the wifi works well in main rooms (but nowhere else); lots of windows, lots of electrical plug-ins; there's a grocery store right across the street, and there's also a small organic grocery store (turn right out of the street door, it's about half a block away); another block beyond that on the opposite side of Calle Mayor is a shop called Los Andes with excellent Spanish charcuterie, cheese, olives, etc.

Minuses: when we arrived the cleaning person had hung wet towels on a large drying rack dominating the only area available for general living (dining, TV, visiting) and we had to live with it for three days until they were dry; our greeter (the cleaning lady), while wonderful, spoke very little english, making essential information about the apartment difficult to understand; there are no comfortable chairs for relaxing—the couch is not comfortable (and has fuzzy pillows that shed hair), the single “arm chair” really is just a padded dining table type chair; general upkeep is marginal and some things definitely need more attention. For example: the bathroom sink vanity is chipped and peeling, the shower is in poor condition, needs new plumbing fixtures, seals are leaky and moldy, leaving a mildew smell--this whole bathroom should be updated; some lights are poorly installed with wiring showing, many lights don't work; some walls in the main living area need paint.

“Great Location - Needs Small Improvements”

Overall a very good stay. Great location right near Plaza Mayor on the main street. 5th floor with small elevator. Full of light and breezy on top floor. My wife and I and our 23 yr old son stayed three nights. To consider: This is a noisy street but still a prime location. Why not "Excellent"? We came at scheduled time only to meet cleaning person who spoke no English. She was sweet and got the basics across, but we don't speak Spanish. Air-conditioning is in main room and main bedroom, but none in second bedroom, where, unfortunately, the ceiling fan did not work, either. That made it hot for my son. Both bedrooms are small with beds up against a wall. Definitely sleeps three, not four, but on the other hand, it has 2 bathrooms, not one. The apt., including kitchen are well equipped. We did enjoy our stay here.
