Owner description: Cafetín La Quimera, located in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid, is a small and intimate restaurant with flamenco shows every day. The venue is dedicated to offering the public an authentic flamenco experience at a reasonable price. The flamenco performances are held from Monday through Sunday, with one show per night during the weekdays and two shows per night during the weekends. Ticket packages include the option of the show with drink or dinner, featuring different menus of traditional Spanish dishes that can be sampled tapas style. The atmosphere is one of a local bar and restaurant: a friendly, informal and relaxed setting which is perfect for an evening of flamenco. Seating is also never far from the stage with tables and chairs on two sides for a good view of the show. No microphones or additional technical equipment are used for voice and guitar: the emphasis is always on the artist’s natural tools and talents to transmit the experiences of flamenco without effects.

We had been told to make sure we saw some flamenco dancing when in Madrid. A friend highly recommended Cafetin La Quimera and then booked a table for us on our first night there. What an experience: we had a stage-side table and we felt the wind of every swish and swirl. I can understand why he is a regular there, the music is mesmerising and the dancing is an incredible energy.

We bought tickets online a few weeks before our visit on May 1st.
The menu included a salad (goat cheese, veggies and fruit), "Spanish pancake" (with eggs and potatoes), two courses from the menu which we could choose ourselves (we decided on a jamon plateau and chicken+veggies hot meal) and one drink per person (sangria is always our preferred choice in Spain).
We were at the very front of the restaurant, right before the stage - which was nice, although I had the feeling that one wrong movement from the dancers, and there would be salad and sangria all over the place. No such thing happened, luckily. The dancers, the guitarist and the singer were absolutely fabulous, and the whole show felt authentic. There were some foreign guests at the restaurant that night, but the majority seemed to be locals, or at least Spanish speakers - which for me was a good sign.

The only thing that didn't go so well was the bill at the end - we hadn't ordered anything except what's included in our tickets, but we got a bill for 3 drinks anyway. It turned our to be a mistake, but if we hadn't looked closely, we might as well could have paid it.

If you’re going to Madrid, make sure you stop here for a nights entertainment.

Myself and my partner booked the sharing menu and show, which was great value. The meal was a starter of a massive egg dish, like a quiche plus a tasty salad. The for mains you pick a Tapa each, which again was really tasty. Go for the dates wrapped in bacon! One drink was included each also….and I think that was about E35 each maybe? Could be a little less or more, but exact prices are on their website which is very well managed. The waiting staff also were very helpful and had perfect English.

We were seated at the front row, which initially we were uncomfortable with as you’re practically on top of the stage. But in the end we were delighted to be so close to the performers. There was one musician, one singer and 3 dancers, and each of the 5 of them were amazingly talented. They were fantastic, and the whole experience felt quite authentic, not touristy at all. All the speaking was in Spanish, the location was in a neighbourhood outside the centre of the city (about a 10 minute walk from a metro stop), and seemed to be a few locals in with the families for their dinners. I will be recommending to any of my friends that travel to Madrid.

Had a fantastic time watching exceptional dancers and musicians perform in an intimate, off the beaten path venue. Was a great experience and one I highly recommend.

I'm sure that performers will vary but we were entertained by a singer, guitar player and three dancers. The venue is small and intimate and the dancers passionate. The performances are professional but not over choreographed so there is a feel of authenticity. We loved it. The food consisted of tortilla, ham, cheese, salad and a tuna dish. It was adequate but if I went again I would eat elsewhere first. Make sure you book in advance - the price doubles if you don't.
