This is the Louvre for Madrid. Take a full day to visit it (at least). Otherwise yo'll be running through all the galleries and it may become a bit boring and tiresome. Velázquez, El Bosco, El Greco, Goya, they are all well worth it!

Of course the Prado is a must see. Meditate in front of the Velazquez´ ¨Las Meninas.¨ Relive history with Goya´s collection.

I wasn't sure that I would enjoy the Prado as my taste in art is quite selective and narrow but I loved it. It is such a huge collection that there is enough to give anyone pleasure. The difficulty would be for those of broad taste who would be overwhelmed. it is well laid out and easy to find your way around to what you want to see. No photos allowed at all which is sad as the postcard selection in the shop is rubbish. We went during the day and paid (it is free every evening). We bought a special ticket (20 euros) which gets admission to the 3 top Galleries but only lasts for 1 day. Great if time is limited but too much art on 1 day otherwise. Back packs are not allowed in and you are forced to eat in the Prado eating place which is very expensive, with small helpings and very busy. I dread to think what it is like in high season.
We arrived at the Prado at about 11 am and did not have to queue for more than 5 minutes. Definetly worth a visit - I will forever remember the sculpture of 'Grief'

If you love art go here. A very romantic walk and gorgeous buildings on the way.
