Our stay in this beautiful Pension, left a lovely experience and memoirs of a warm, cozy environment, very helpful staff, charming festive season decorations, and comfortable facilities. Even at booking stage months before our arrival, Cristina, the lady who runs the place, was so helpful to accommodate to our requests. Had read previously about the notorious bells, and about a room with a window facing only a small shaft, but had no problems with these at all. The view from our window was over the street, whereas the view from the one in the bathroom, featured the cobbled street leading to the cathedral as well as other buildings. The dining area was impeccably neat and tidy all day long. It has also a unique character, particularly in the setting of round tables. We found the living area also quite relaxing and peaceful. As for our triple room, it was big enough for the three of us, and bathroom was always clean, although being not so modern. The stairs were perhaps a bit challenging, particularly going up the 2 levels with our luggage to our room, but then it was not an impossible mission, so can't complain about that. The site also comprises of a luggage room, so that your room is kept as spacious as possible. Although parking facilities are at least a 10 minute walk away mostly on cobbled steep streets, one can park temporarily at the nearby university grounds to ease the un/loading of luggage. Don't know what else to add. All in all, it was such a positive experience. The only negative thing was the constant rain, but that is not the pension's fault, and changes nothing of our judgement about the Bellmirall as being a wonderful place were to stay ... and to return :)

After reading all the reviews, I think we expected more. Best location in the heart of medieval Girona. Nice continental breakfast, very lovely staff, walking distance of the bus station from airport (up steep hill). The rooms were small and lacking for the price--tiny bathroom, shower. We wish we'd stayed in the cheaper 4-star place outside town and taken the convenient bus in.

The Bellmirall is a beautiful, quaint little hotel/Pension in the middle of the historic centre - right next to the Cathedral. Room was spotless, with nice furnishings. Great location for exploring Cathedral, St Felue and city walls.

We used Girona as a base for visiting both Figueres for the Dali Museum (20 mins on the train, around €4) and Barcelon (50mins on the train, around €5.60).

*What's great:
- Beautiful rooms, stone walls, balcony.
- Great breakfast in lovely little garden or main room.
- Staff. Very friendly and helpful.
- Lovely part on Girona, easy to access all tourist spots and cafes.

*Things that could put people off:
- Rooms are lovely, but fairly small (especially the bathroom).
- There's no hanging space/storage.
- Cathedral bells. (The hotel is literally next to the Cathedral, which rings every 15mins and the number of the hour. Fine if you're a heavy sleeper like me, but otherwise ear-plugs are essential).
- Lots of steps to reach the hotel.

*Getting there
- Main train station is 20mins walk. (Goes to France, Figueres, Barcelona etc.)
- Sagres Bus from Girona airport. (about €8 return, takes 25mins, goes every hour to bus station next to train station)
- NB: you cannot drive right to this hotel. Historic Girona is a residents-only driving area.

Loved this hotel, will definitely go back.

This isn't a Welsh conspiracy, but like the last post we also chose the Bellmirall on the basis of Tripadvisor and the ever dependable Rough Guide. It lived well up to expectations - a small, spotlessly clean hotel with lots of character and a friendly welcome in a great location. Our room was quite small but had everything we needed (which did not include wifi access, tv, phone and kettle so best look elsewhere if you're after that kind of facility). It was great being in the heart of the old quarter, but you do need to be prepared to do a lot of walking up and down steps. As for the bells, they didn't wake us - must have been all that walking. There are thoughtful touches, like the umbrellas available for guests' use. And the day we left, we were delighted to be given a breakfast tray in our room as our flight meant we had to depart before the official breakfast time. We paid 55 euros B & B for a twin room without ensuite (they get booked up quickly) but there was a basin in the room.
Highly recommended.

Thanks again to the dependable, insightful recommendations of the Rough Guide and Lonely Planet this was an easy choice, and such a gem to find after meandering wide-eyed up the hilly, cobbled, medieval streets of the old town. The owner is an 80-year old artist, according to the lady who welcomed us, who had such a warm demeanour herself. As we were travelling in October, I'm sure we got the best room, the best bed, and best balcony there. I suppose the owner had painted the handsome Pointilliste-style watercolour on the bedroom wall, a picture of a woman in a blue skirt overlooking the balcony, remeniscent of Dali's famous picture of his wife Dali. We, of course, duly took a picture in the same pose, which I treasure. Nothing pleased me more than sitting outside watching the joggers (is this a new trend in Catalunya/Spain?) passing beneath us in the evening, listening to the bells. And I echo the reviewer who said that you should drink more of the local rosat. I cannot remember hearing them during the night at all... Will recommend to all.
