On arriving in Girona we asked a taxi driver to take us to Bellmirall and we saw him exchange glances with a fellow taxi driver. I was worried that the place had a bad reputation but once we began driving I saw why he was so apprehensive about driving us up there. To be fair he took us to the door of the hotel which was not an easy feat! If you are staying in this hotel be prepared for plenty of walking on cobbled streets.

We stayed here one night so the location was perfect. We arrived early so while waiting for our room the manager advised us to "get lost in the old city". It was the perfect location to explore the twists and turns of old Girona and really gave us a sense of what it must have been like to live in the old medieval town. The hotel is right next to the cathedral which is free to visit on Sundays and really is a must-see.

Also within walking distance is another beautiful church, the Rambla with restaurants and shops and the towers which give access to the city walls. The hotel is also located perfectly for visiting the public gardens which are situated just beyond the cathedral. If the weather is nice it is a perfect place to sit or lie in the sun.

Myself and my boyfriend shared a double ensuite room for €70 which was great value. The room was small but perfect for 2 people. We didnt have much of a view from the window which was facing straight onto another building but this wasn't a problem and the rest of the room more than made up for it. The communal areas were lovely and although we didnt get breakfast the breakfast area looked lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful and let us store our bags the following day as we had a late flight. Check-out was at a very reasonable 12 o clock.

Room Tip: Try the icecream in the nearby icecream shops!

A beautiful building in a beautiful part of the old town. The rooms are quaint and warm (the bed was only 6 foot long...) the communal lounge relaxing and the breakfast area unique. There is an outside dining courtyard (but it was too wet to use during our stay). The owner of the business couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. The food was continental style, fresh and filling and very reasonable at 7 euros. We loved staying here. Free fast access wi-fi as well if you wanted to escape the ancient surroundings virtually!

The downsides were only two but both part of the staying in such an area. The bells of the nearby cathedral were disturbing in the early hours and late evening; and the parking if you arrive by car is difficult (the hotel will give you a permit to park local but finding a space is the most challenging part- don't even think about bringing a big car into this part of town). Like I said though, you are stopping in a medieval location and it's all part of the charm!

If you're in Girona this hotel is well worth a look!

We stayed at the Bellmirall for five nights and loved it. Slightly poor noise insulation between the room and corridor were the only faults we found. Otherwise it was perfect and we would certainly return. The decor was beautiful and the breakfasts generous.

We stumbled on the Bellmirall and without reservations were able to get two nights. The location is unbeatable in the heart of the most charming part of old town Girona and we paid a fair 85€/night. Christina was exceptionally helpful and welcoming. The room was charming and unpretentious with a cute little balcony and three beds. The bathroom was indeed small, but lacked nothing and was very clean. The breakfast on the patio was memorable - such a cute place with a warm and homey feel. I must admit that the bells were a bit tough on me at first, but by closing the windows and the wooden shutters, I was able to sleep well. The second night I didn't even notice them. Parking is at the university, a 300 meter walk from the hotel. We loved our time in Girona and the Bellmirall is one of the reasons why.

This is a charming hotel, well located in the old center near the cathedral. If you have any difficulty with bells all night (three different churches, about a minute apart), be sure to bring your earplugs. My husband had no trouble with the bells, but I used earplugs, as I do in many towns in Spain, France, and Italy, and slept fine. We had one of the rooms with the bath in the hall, although it was private and robes supplied, and the price was right at 65 euros with breakfast. The room was cute if not huge, and had a view over the street. Breakfast just fine, and we were happy with the communal tables at breakfast. We also appreciated the use of umbrellas.
