The best meal we had in Barca. Small venue with very helpful and friendly staff. All the food was so delicious, menu is not in English so relied on staff recommendations. Anyone who loves seafood this a must must!

Suuuccchhhh GOOD food here. Lovely little authentic Spanish tapas, so many great dishes .. We had the potatoe fritas with garlic sauce, mussels, chorizo and so many other great plates. The squid was great, as was the calamari.

Best advice is to let the staff pick for you, that's what we did and we had such a great experience.

If you enjoy fresh, authentic seafood you won't regret coming to La Cova Fumada. As other's have mentioned there is no name on the outside, the restaurant looks dark and chaotic and it is easy for many people to be put off by this but please DON'T BE! All the staff were REALLY friendly. The only menu is a single chalkboard in Spanish so we asked the waiter for his recommendations. The tapas style plates we had were the Bomba which others have mentioned, as well as the calamari, razor clams, cod, sardines and toasted bread with garlic. The razor clams and calamari in particular were two stand out dishes and a must for anyone coming here.

The ambience is great, 2 couples sharing a table of 4, Spanish, Catalan, English, Chinese and loads of other languages being spoken. Clearly popular with tourists but it hasn't lost its local appeal or authenticity which is hard to do. Try here for a real taste of Catalan fish!

The place is nice. Simple, local and friendly. I wasn't blown away by the food. It was fine but not great. We had the bomba (fried potato balls with aioli) which were ok but not rave material like the reviews. The chorizo was tasty. The calamari was a bit overcooked and average. The mussels with aioli were small but tasty. So yes, fine for a snack but still on the hunt for better tapas. It is cheap also so that's a bonus.

As others have described the premises has no name outside, but it was easy to find from the queue of people outside. We arrived at 13:40 and were told it would be at least 30 minute wait. You must give your name to the proprieter who maintains order and will step out into the street to call the name for the next table.
You can get a drink while you wait, and even stand by the bar if you can find a space.
Eventually we were seated at 14:15 and ordered, bread, sardines, cod fillet, squid, and the bomberes (potato). With our pitcher of sangria the bill was €26.
The premises is small and noisy, and you can see the staff preparing the food as the kitchen is open to the dining area.
A truly authentic feel to the place and great tasting food meant it was definitely worth the wait - search it out when you are in Barcelona, you won't be disappointed.
