One of the downsides of Hotel Villa Emilia is the fact that it is about 20 minute - 25 minute walking distance to the center of Barcelona's nightlife in Las Ramblas, the distance to Plaza Catalunya is only 5 minutes in Taxi however it would take a nice 20 minute walk.

If you are a first time tourist in Barcelona it is recommendable to stay as close as possible to Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, which is the heart of Barcelona where the nightlife , restaurants and all the shopping happens.

Hotel Villa Emilia is located approximately 20-25 minutes walking distance from Plaza Catalunya in a quite small neighborhood a block away from the Gran Via which is the main avenue and only 10 minutes walking distance from the renowed Plaza Espana.

The hotel is brand new with new facilities and remodeled, the room which we stayed in offers a spacious room and a spacious clean bathroom, The Hotel however does not have amenities such as pool, gym or sauna as it lean towards being a young hip hotel offering in their lobby appetizers, drinks and a place for business meetings and dates. There is also a terrace rooftop bar that guests may use for enjoyment.

The service of the hotel was good, the staff helped me out with all my questions and they even helped me call the Iberia Airline to add an extra luggage. They are very helpful and when we needed them to re-send a booking confirmation to the consulate for the Visa they also did it promptly. Everyone spoke perfect English and provided all the right information regarding the city and tours.

What left us very disappointed was the breakfast, where it was located in the bar with only ten seats available at a time, it did not contain a full continental breakfast as it only had Eggs, Juices and Smoked Salmon for a total of almost 20 Euros. We would recommend guests to venture out to the cafe's and restaurants adjacent to the hotel for food.

All in all, if you are looking for a hotel that caters to an International Clientele and a safe and clean room with modern facilities in Barcelona Villa Emilia would be it, the price is fair and is okay relative value for cost. I recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the plaza have better lighting and better views

We spent three nights at this hotel and have no complaints. Just around the corner from Rocafort metro stop, our room overlooked the street but was surprisingly quiet and the air-con helped us to cope with the very hot Barcelona weather. Friendly staff and a great roof bar. We ended up not eating at the hotel but would strongly recommend the breakfast at Copasetic across the street. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We have just returned from a stay here as recommended by a friend of mine. We were really impressed by how trendy and modern this was, and as others have said it smelled beautiful!

Our room was adequate, the bathroom and shower were great and we had our room serviced to very high standards each day. We availed of the BBQ event which they hold twice a week on our first night and the food was absolutely fantastic. What we did notice is that we were sitting for quite a while and had to approach the bar for drinks, however the female waitress was extremely apologetic and we thought this was a one off incident. However later on into the evening, I noticed it was becoming increasingly difficult to get a male waiter's attention, we were sitting around the far side from the bar and we amongst other customers were waiting long times for drinks. Whilst it was busy it was not overcrowded, and I felt that the waiter was only focusing on one area of the rooftop bar, and the remaining staff were busy making cocktails so staffing is an issue.

The same happened again on our second last night and it was quite frustrating overall as we could only get one drink in before closing time, and it was quite empty that night! I think they are losing out on revenue here by the speed of service, but apart from this cannot fault the hotel whatsoever.

Stayed here from 13TH to 16th August. Gorgeous trendy boutique hotel. The hotel even smells lovely. Love the lighted candles in the evening. Our room and bathroom were great. Very big double bed. Slept really well but barcelona is very tiring. Didn't really use the hotel for anything other than shower, change and to sleep. Didn't book the 13 euro each per day breakfast as I knew we would find somewhere where we could just get a little something and a coffee which we did just straight up the road on the corner on the left found a really fab little cafe bar called la petite Paris where we had breakfast for 10 euros for both of us!!! All freshly made we had dinner also one evening. Use the metro to get around really easily. Rochford station 2 min walk down street. Love barcelona, added bonus of beach. Only disappointment for us was it poured down when we went to see the fountains which are on the place d espanya 10 min walk away. Hopefully return next year in the spring
