Great Hotel.

Excellent location. The rooms were well appointed.
Despite being right on the Ramblas the rooms were exceptionally
quiet.

Roof deck was beautiful and very peaceful.
Spa was outstanding. The spa pool was magical.
Complementary tea 5/7pm was great.

Front desk was very helpful.

Would definitely stay there again.

Hotel 1898 is an excellent hotel and situated near La Ramblas giving it a wonderful location to explore Barcelona.

We stayed in a Colonial Suite which (although quite pricey) comes with its own huge private terrace and heated swimming pool which we took full advantage of.

The Spa in the hotel is excellent and I would encourage guests to take full advantage of it when they stay.

Our room was big, comfortable and quiet and we had an excellent stay.

The only thing that may have let the hotel down was the food. Breakfast was fine and there was plenty of choice for everyone. We ate dinner at the hotel and although the food was of the highest quality it was almost as if the chef was trying too hard to be original with his dishes which resulted in some very strange combinations and one bad stomach ache.

Overall, we had a great time and would recommend it. Also, as this is not well advertised, the train to and from the airport is free, and makes travel to and from the city a breeze.

Stayed four nights here and loved the location ,comfort and cleanliness of this hotel. We booked a superior room and it was quite a good size.I think all the superior rooms overlook the Rambles, and even though the windows have excellent double glazing it can be a bit noisey. The housekeeping was excellent, and the sheets were changed daily and towels twice daily. The first morning we ordered a continental breakfast to our room and it was quite good .The next morning it came it seemed as if it had been prepared the night before. We ate out the next morning(and there are plenty of coffee shops etc.minutes from the hotel)On the morning before we came home we had the restuarant breakfast at 21 euros. For a cold breakfast it was okay but the bacon and scrambled egg were just on cold trays. My husband ordered an omlette and it was more like a burnt fried egg! I wouldn't let the food stop me returning to this hotel as there are so many excellent eating places beside it.I loved everything else about the hotel and would stay here again if we return to Barcelona

my girlfriend and i went to the hotel 1898 for a 5 day stay and it was all what we wanted !! it was so romantic and the staff there were lovely apart from one member of staff at the bar ! but that doesn't matter, the thing we loved was the fact that we were in the middle of the most amazing city and all that hustle and bustle outside but you would never know which is great if you want to relax!!
the only problem we had with the hotel was that we booked a deluxe room which we didn't end up staying in as the room it self was very small and the balcony only had a brick wall and no view so we didn't fancy looking at the wall for days so we asked to be moved, with it being busy they only had superior room which i would like to add was great it didn't have a balcony but it had two windows that opened up onto the great sound and views of la ramblas and the room was a lot bigger then the first room!! we would without a doubt book this type of room again also we were impressed the way the room was cleaned twice a day ,
we only had breakfast once at the hotel which was nice but not great as we tend to like English breakfast however there is still a lot to choose from we also had dinner which was really nice but plz be warned a medium cooked steak is more like rare cooked steak in England so if u don't like blood be warned !!!
if u want a great place to eat with a lovely romantic view try totre dell mar in port vell ask Dani in the reception of 1898 he will book it for you.(hes great)
if you book this hotel or any other hotels in Barcelona plz watch your bags and wallets as mine was stolen while we were site seeing but we still had a great time and would return to this great city in a flash there's so much to see and do but i wouldn't take children here as we would say its a adults holiday .

The hotel has a terrific location, and the building and decor are superb. Our room was rather small, and almost windowless (just a very small window at one end) and whilst the bathroom was excellent, the room itself attracted all the corridor noise - especially tiresome when (after our 12 hour flight) the domestic staff started loudly and energetically cleaning the rooms at 7.15 am. The staff were pleasant and helpful, but the breakfast, although abundant, was poorly maintained - hot items eg.scrambled egs, bacon etc. were left to go cold, and bread was left to go stale. Worse, room service delivered exceptionally poor food - salad that had obviously sat for hours, fish that was old and oily, stale rolls, and an inedible hamburger. The cuisine of this hotel is distinctly poor, and more attention should be paid to sound proofing the rooms.
