Great spot. Smaller than Mercat St. Josep, off Las Ramblas and not a tourist trap.

It's spotless, the trade is mostly local, the stalls offer a genuine welcome and explain all about the produce when you ask.

It's less than five minutes from the cathedral, just off Carrer Laietana, so very central. It has a couple of great cafes and bars too, and the coolest roof next to anything by Gaudi.

What an incredible selection of fresh food - nuts, fruits, eggs, vegetables & meats. So much to choose from.

And, an added bonus - check out the curved and colourful roof

We happened across Mercat Santa Caterina and were so pleased we did. We really enjoyed wandering through these fresh markets and watching locals doing their shop. A fantastic selection of fresh foods, meats, fish, cheeses. Far less touristy, very clean and a great way to see where and how the locals shop rather than the frenzy of la Boqueria. We enjoyed some snacks and wandered through at a leisurely place, you can stop for a drink at the bar which is a nice option.

It may not be fashionable, or well located as the Boqueria. but as a market it offers great selection of foods, and a proper restaurant. I had a simple moussaka, my wife had calamari. Both really good, fresh, tasty - and fairly priced.
