This area is a must visit, it has a lovely atmosphere and you can wander around it for ages, its a good place to linger and is full of interesting characters.

I would recommend staying in the Gothic Quarter for a very short visit (2-3 days) but not longer. It is full of tourists and can be very noisy. Choose your accommodation carefully. For longer visits, I would seek out the Gracia neighbourhood of Barclona, with easy access to Park Güell and up-and-coming restaurants.

Lots of nifty little shops & places to eat. The streets are windy & crooked & narrow, and you really get a feel for a little of what it might have been like to live in the Barcelona of old.

The buildings are just fantastic, with something new at every corner. You walk from narrow alleyways into large open squares which at the time of our visit were set up with stages for live entertainment, as it was the festival of Merce. They all lead to the stunning Cathedral.

Every corner or street is an adventure. Lots to see and took many pictures. Fun little cafes, a great wine store and deli that we discovered. So much history! Don't miss this part of Barcelona!
