We had passed it and it's nearby sister restaurant several times before we realized how highly rated it was. It's definitely close quarters time inside, once you have navigated the line up outside, but funny and engaged staff are on hand to help out... with drinks, generally! They have a slightly different version of how to use the menu, which they explain, but I always felt a bit off kilter the whole time... part of the charm, I guess. One unusual thing is (and there's a menu disclaimer) that they don't have any fish or shellfish items, which might be a boon for some people. The other thing is the lighting...at least where I was standing, the area was bathed in red light... and when the ingredients are things like tomatoes and ham and melted cheeses... everything began to take on a certain same-yness (word?) and taste. It was all really great stuff though and we enjoyed it all. The staff were great... I passed one of the guys on the street somewhere else and he recognized me and said Hi! no mean feat when you deal with that many customers a day!

We started off at Bodega Biarritz 1881, their duplicate restaurant just down the road, but it was already queuing out of the door and we weren't really dressed for standing around outside so we tried here instead. There was a queue, but at least it was indoors and we were served drinks while we waited. The cocktails were nothing special, so I'd probably go for something else another time, but this is the only think I can think of to criticise which isn't bad going.

We got a table after about half an hour which was pretty much what we expected, and opted for their "surprise" menu when they just bring you plates of tapas that they choose for you. We were asked if we had any particular like or dislikes, and they coped very well with our vegetarian. If you don't like anything they bring, then they pledge to replace it with something else and smile. We didn't come near to having to test this out though. Their tapas selection was much more imaginative than the average line up, and we would definitely go back for more another time.

We loved the very reasonably priced food and the service was fantastic too. Both of us really appreciated not having to choose the tapas ourselves - our awesome waiter (and Spanish teacher Lucas from Argentina) did it for us, based on our general food preferences :)

What a wonderful experience! Lucas surprised us with 8 incredible tapas! It was so much fun to let someone else choose your meal. We have been having the same old Spanish food for the last week. The tapas at Bodega were outstanding in presentation as well as taste. The staff were also excellent! Lots of smiles and personality! We are going to go back again before we leave, it was that good!

If you want tapas, look no further! Small, out of the way, worth the wait! Two menu options, both of which has the waiter choose the 8 dishes you'll get. Just tell them your dietary requirements and preferences and they'll do the rest! My wife is a coeliac and of the 8 dishes, only one had gluten in. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Highly recommended, would definitely visit again.
