“Excellent choice”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

Just returned from trip to Melia Las Claras.

Perfect position, which is most important for city breaks. Just 10 minute stroll to the Plaza Mayor and all the sites.

Staff were very helpful, organised and welcoming.

Room was lovely - big with very modern bathroom, good shower, comfortable king size bed. We asked for a quiet room and looked out at the back, but cannot imagine the front facing rooms would be very noisy as it is a quiet area. Cannot understand a previous reviewer saying room was dated. Ours looked brand new.

Breakfast was exceptional, probably as good as we have had anywhere. Lovely fresh fruit, bacon and scrambled eggs, freshly squeezed juices, pastries etc.

All in all would really recommend this hotel for the price.

Just a couple of extras would make this hotel perfect.

First, there was no internet/computer available in the hotel (wi-fi access but have to pay for this).

Second, it would have been lovely to have had coffee/tea making facilities in the room.

We found the room very comfortable although we would hear noise from the street. Somehow, it didn't make much difference because it wasn't constant and we would go back to sleep afterward. We faced the square and it might be better to try another option. Staff was pleasant and the buffet breakfast was lovely. We tried the restaurant for lunch as well - good food in pleasant surroundings. The price for the hotel and the food was very reasonable for the quality offered.

Room Tip: See if you can choose a room not overlooking the square.

the hotel is good, service is friendly, and breakfast was very nice. the location is ok, near the city center but in a quieter area away from the main drag. however the rooms are a bit dated. The Melia chain must be calling some of their smaller properties "boutique" but there isn't much of a boutique feeling to the property, it just feels like a regular upscale hotel. the garage uses a lift system and if you have a big car (SUV) it can be a challenge to get in and out. Value for money could be better.

I am just back from a great stay at the Melia Las Claras hotel. Great central location 10-15minutes walk from plaza major.
Rooms were good size with toiletries provided and 24 hour room service. Pillow menu aswell - great for getting a good nights sleep.
Breakfast had good choice with scrambled egg, breads etc.
Salamanca is a great destination with amazing architecture and lively nightlife. Plenty of shops and restaurants. Overall would recommend.

We'd booked a superior twin room but when we checked in were upgraded to a junior suite, which was great! Big room with a separate seating area; good sized bathroom; modern and well-equipped. The location of the hotel is great - in a quiet street so no problems sleeping, but only 10 minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor and most of the things we wanted to see and do. I'm a member of the Melia club and this meant we got breakfast half price, which was good value and had a nice buffet. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening, as there were so many other places to try in Salamanca, but we did have drinks in the 'bar' (which is in effect just the hotel lobby) - good service, but drinks rather expensive. There's a great wine bar (Vinodiaro) just across the street, which we used quite a lot - much better value and has nice food too. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would use this hotel again if returning to Salamanca.
