We have just spent a week at the Monopol, which all four of us thoroughly enjoyed. It is a beautiful old Canarian building, yes it needs upgrading in places, but I would think it is a money pit that they are doing their best with, our room was clean and comfortable with a nice large balcony complete with chairs, table, 2 loungers and an umbrella, how about that! We knew there was no air con when we booked... the ceiling fan was adequate and we felt secure enough to leave the balcony door open all night which worked a treat.

The atmosphere in the hotel is great, homely, casual, no scrum in the dining room or pool/bar area, just wander in and out as you please and get immediate service.

We all thought the breakfasts were excellent, some of the best scrambled egg I have ever had! I know the bacon and sausages are not really to the British taste, but I have yet to find a sausage that I like and I have been more times than I can remember as my husband was born in Puerto de la Cruz! Something for everybody at breakfast... and the older cook that was on most days was meticulous, wow did he run a tight ship, never stopped tidying, organising, straightening, right down to the last cornflake, brilliant.

The hotel is in a wonderful central location, I even popped back during our evening strolls to use my own loo on a couple of occasions! No sign of any winos or druggies in the beautiful square opposite either...

The only reason I did not give the Monopol a 5 rating is that clearly some of the rooms do need upgrading, but we were fully aware of this when we booked, we loved it and will be going again next year.

Room Tip: We liked the back rooms facing the pool and sea, fresher air, not so sunny but this suits us.

We once again visited the Hotel Monopol. We make an anual visit. We found the hotel to be up to the usual standard. The staff were obliging and all very efficient especially all the waiters in the dining room. There was an electrical problem whilst we were there. The Owner made alternative plans for dining in the neighbouring hotel. The waiters from the Monopol gave a hand in the dining room so that the Monopol clients got their usual service.Things were well arranged but the standard of the food was nowhere near the standards of the Monopol. We shall be returning as we were impressed with the way the problem was dealt with.

What a great place. By chance needed (to many glasses of the red stuff (vino) & could not drive safely & legally home to Adeje. Hence the random stop over. Hotel is 100 years old & still run / owned by the same family (4th generation ). Eloquent, traditional, quality & personal service (Canarian ) & breakfast great. Old fashioned & back in time & total fantastico experience...

We stayed at Hotel Monopol for 7 nights and first impressions were very good...Our room (212) was spacious & basically what we expected for traditional Spanish hotel...Room was clean and tidy but very stuffy with no air con, the ceiling fan was hopeless had to purchase a fan from local hardware store..We paid extra for balcony room thinking it would be nice to chill only to be greeted day & night with the local alcoholics who sat across from hotel, right outside chapel!! Apart from their lack of respect they were noisy & argumentative. One had a dog and the poor thing barked constantly.. Police were called everyday but nothing was actually done to remove them! This is not the hotels fault but surely local businesses must be affected by this?? The hotel had lovely areas with loungers to sunbathe. pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc... We were all disappointed with hotel breakfast...although there was a good selection the quality wasn't great and we ended up purchasing our own breakfast...Really wish we could award better rating but have to go by our own experience... Hotel Monopol has nice decor and quite quaint, close to shops & amenities...some of the staff were lovely and so friendly especially the house keeper who came in daily but unfortunately certain things let the Hotel down.

Room Tip: Don't take Room 212 if you want peace

It's nice to be in a hotel that is different from all the concrete modern hotels.
Nice small swimming pool. Excellent location in the center of Puerto. Close to restaurants, shops, beaches,...
The breakfast and diner are tasty and certainly worth the price.
Because the biggest part of the hotel is located in an old building, almost every room is different. I had a room with a balcony (here also every balcony is different at the back of the hotel).
Don't forget to visit the roof top to admire the views.
There are several places with sun beds, you don't have the feeling that you are crowded.
