Arrived very late (after midnight), but it was no problem. Shown to our rooms (we had 2 singles, numbers 20 and 122), and shown where breakfast was served. The bedrooms were on the small side, and my only criticism would be the lack of power points (there was only 1). The power goes off unless the door key is parked in its slot, although there is a way around this !
The breakfast was a buffet....everything you could possibly want....sausages, bacon, eggs, hash browns, tomatoes, toast, pastries, fruit, ham cheese, etc etc.
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. On monday evening there is a welcoming meet the owner/manager with free sangria.
The hotel is really lovely, with historic pictures and artifacts scattered throughout. The pool and terraces are great for sunbathing, and there is a sauna and jacuzzi. The view from the 4th floor terrace is lovely.
This hotel feels like meeting old friends. I can't paise it enough, and I will definately return

George and I along with our daughter and son in law stayed at this little gem of a Hotel from the 14/9/16 for 10 nights, throughly enjoyed our stay and while there celebrated daughter and son in laws 4th Wedding Anniversary.Everywhere very clean staff all very friendly especially breakfast staff the head waiter very kindly corked the champers for the Anniversary Breakfast a good selection at breakfast constantly restocking so you never have to ask for anything, the lovely Pedro at the hotel bar is so friendly we had many a laugh with him when we popped back for a drink before retiring to bed.Our only gripe was that the local council had put on a September Carnival so we had 2 nights of very little sleep because a live band and music going on until 3am & 5am on the Saturday & Sunday mornings we do believe quite a few people staying at the Hotel had complained about the noise but apart from that a lovely stay.from George & Linda

Lets get this into perspective. This is NOT a modern hotel. If you looking for a Travelodge, Ibis, Ramada or something similar; then go somewhere else for this is not the hotel for you. It is a Canarian' hotel kept in the 'Canarian' style, albeit updated to keep with modern times (wifi, lifts, power-showers, etc.).

Our room was at the front with a balcony directly facing the clock tower so it bonged god knows how many times during out stay. My word; it was loud but I'm deaf and the wife had more more interference from a noisy German couple next door. The bathroom was okay-ish; not brilliant, but it had the best power shower than any other hotel that I've been too (and a bidet if you should be so inclined). We enjoyed our third floor balcony front room. It got the sun morning to evening, a view of Mount Teide and a bird's eye view of the entertainment around the church and the town. Well worth the extra money.

One thing I didn't like was my bed (and we were twin beds). Although it was great for sleeping; was cheap, had a spare bed feel, but the worst thing was that one end was on wheels on a tiled floor. It was impossible to sit up against the headboard and read a book without the bed travelling. In fact, I never did in the end. I mentioned this in our feedback to the hotel at the end of the stay.

The food was plentiful, a wide variety, but after two weeks a bit samey (inevitably). Some food not brilliant (melons, octopus!!), but otherwise; not enough negatives to put you off. Note that at Half-board, you have to pay your own drinks (including water) at the evening meal. not used to half-boards, we were rather surprised, but apparently, this is normal.

Otherwise, the staff were polite, helpful and seemed to enjoy their work (unlike other comments). We also hired a car for three days and parked it free in a nearby public car park (despite the fact that it wouldn't lock) and best of all; the hotel is good and central in the middle of the town so it was easy to get to where-ever you wanted. Oh; and we did Goecaching as well.

Room Tip: Third floor, front facing the church with balcony.

This hotel is very centrally located and this, plus the old Canarian look, is it's main attraction. It is very tired and could be made so much better with a bit of TLC. The lobby is very attractive with all the plants etc. but a lot of it could do with a good clean. One fire door had obviously never been closed in years and was inches thick in dust plainly visible when you came down the stairs.
The room was OK but the only view was of a wall opposite. The bathroom was tiny but adequate. Breakfast was fine and the scrambled eggs were especially good, unlike the clods of rubber you get at many establishment, The beds were comfortable and the noise level reasonable until the Church clock started chiming in the early morning and the people next door decided to have a very early shower. Everywhere is easily accessible from here and we were able to park the car for 2 days free in the nearby harbour car park. We only paid £106 for 2 people for 2 nights B and B so it was very good value for money. I would go again. A bit of a spruce up and it could be excellent.

Just back after a week at the Monopol and can honestly say that there is no downside to this excellent hotel. We stayed on a lovely room at the front of the hotel with a balcony that overlooked the delightful church square. The room had obviously been recently revamped and was completely faultless. Bathroom had a great shower and was spotless. Choice of TV channels wasn't great, but you don't go to Tenerife to watch the telly. The pool area was also an excellent place to chill out in the afternoon or have a drink or 2 before bed. Breakfasts were also very good, with a huge choice of both hot and cold items. Staff were unfailingly polite and helpful and could not be faulted. Above all, the main reason I would recommend this hotel is the location. It is completely central to all areas of the town and certainly much easier to use as a base than the hotels further up the hill. Make no mistake, if you're looking for a hassle free, clean, perfectly situated hotel in Puerto de la Cruz you should look seriously at the Monopol.

Room Tip: Try for a balcony room at the front of the hotel looking onto the square. Much more interesting things to see than an unchanging sea view.
