Had a great stay at the hotel, some of the important things during my time there were:

The room was spacious, modern, clean, well equipped (although a iron would have been appreciated) and had a superb balcony with a sea view. Also a digital safe was available free of charge.

Staff I found friendly and helpful throughout the stay

Parking was on street but was free, plentiful and next to the hotel

There is a hill leading down to the main town (takes around 15 minutes walking) however there are plenty of bars/restaurants/shops around the hotel.
I did notice taxis were readily available if you wished to visit the main town but not attempt the hill.

Judith the entertainment lady, with her enthusiasm and sense of fun, really is a credit to the hotel and made the stay infinitely better. Would recommend taking part in these activities during your stay.

The breakfast selection was good with everything you would expect from pastries, fruit, bread, cooked options and freshly made crepes and omelettes. There was also plenty of seating which meant I was never concerned about not being able to find a table, normally with a fantastic view.

Overall a great hotel and would love to go back soon

The Best Semiramis is located overlooking the sea on the outskirts of Puerto de la Cruz in the North of Tenerife. The hotel is actually built up the side of a cliff with the main entrance at the top, which means that rather oddly what we would normally regard as the ground floor is actually on the 16th floor with the accommodation on lower floors. The main entrance at the top of the hotel is off a narrow street which can get quite congested with coaches arriving and departing at certain times of day. On the opposite side (and at the bottom) of the building the hotel is separated from the sea by a coast road; it is possible to access this road via a tunnel at the basement level of the hotel. (Note that this entrance is unstaffed, and you will need your key card to let yourself back into the hotel. While I didn’t experience it myself, I understand that the card reader is disabled overnight and not activated again till about 9am, so depending on what time you return this back entrance may not be accessible).

Reception is located in a good sized lobby with plentiful seating and a gift shop. Check in was handled efficiently as these things go. There is a large bar connected to the lobby where you can get drinks and snacks; this also hosts evening entertainment – singers, flamenco dancers, that kind of thing – when it can get quite busy. Anyone staying on an all-inclusive basis beware! Not all drinks are free and most of the drinks menus don’t make clear which are free and which need to be paid for (generally premium brands, although All Inclusive guests do get a generous discount on these). The bar has a pleasant balcony with good sea views.

My room on the 10th floor was beautiful – spacious, light, clean and with a stunning view down the coast to the town centre. The room was air conditioned and included a drinks cooler. The bathroom was also spacious and came with a bathtub with overhead shower attachment. A good selection of toiletries was provided (I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much soap in a single bathroom). Wi-Fi was free and worked well. My only complaint is that the room safe was not offered free of charge; it has to be rented.

The restaurant is one floor below reception, on the 15th floor. Unfortunately, my experiences here were less than satisfactory. To obtain drinks, you have to show, on arrival, a form given to you when you first checked in. In return, you will be given a docket which has to be shown to the waiter / waitress once seated who will, in turn, note your order on this docket and tear off the counterfoil. The whole process seems unnecessarily fussy and bureaucratic for the sake of it, and since there is only one counterfoil it seems that you can only order drinks once. Which kind of defeats the purpose of an All- Inclusive arrangement. One lunchtime I forgot my check-in form and was simply refused access. The member of staff on the door was insistent that I needed this form so I had to go back to my room to fetch it. When I returned a bit breathless a few minutes later there was no apology, no acknowledgement of my inconvenience. I was wearing an all-inclusive wristband – surely that should have been all that was needed to allow me in to the restaurant without the need to exchange several bits of paper? The food in general was of modest quality, didn’t change much from day to day and was far too often a bit lukewarm for my liking.

While I didn’t use it, there is a small-ish outdoor swimming pool connected to the same level as reception via a walkway. There appears to be a pool bar adjacent to the swimming pool but I never saw it open; maybe because the main bar is nearby.

Verdict? Given the quality of the rooms and the excellent location this ought to be a really good hotel, but it lets itself down a bit with its service levels. The staff in the restaurant and bar work really hard, but both facilities felt understaffed at times. And one or two of the reception staff might benefit from a refresher course at charm school; one day my key-card didn’t work, and when I went to reception to get it re-set to say the service (once I’d finally been acknowledged) was unsmiling would be entirely accurate. A friendly greeting and a smile cost nothing but leave a good impression.

Background information. The Best Semiramis is on the Eastern outskirts but within the urban area of Puerto de la Cruz. The town centre is an easy 10 minute walk away from either the reception or basement level (although the return journey is easier via the coast road and the basement). While clearly tourist orientated, Puerto de la Cruz is actually a real town that pre-dates package tourism and it’s a pleasure to wander its sea front and streets. There is a small beach of black volcanic sand as you enter the town centre, continue round the sea front for another few minutes and you will reach the stunning lido complex (you’ll need to pay to get in). Following the coast road out of town rather than towards the town centre, the pavement eventually veers away from the road and becomes a coastal footpath. Follow this for about 30 minutes to reach a larger black sand beach, or just enjoy the walk.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea facing views

From the moment we arrived at Best Semiramis we had the best time, we were welcomed by a gentlemen at the reception area who explained everything to us and directed us where to go. When we opened the door to our room on the 4th floor we were blown away, which was a pleasant surprise after reading some of the reviews. But the room was very spacious, very clean, complimentary drinks were in the fridge and the view from the balcony was breathtaking! We only had breakfast which was lovely each day a variety of food all of which was very nice (especially the pastries) with friendly staff. We spent a few days at the pool and that is where we met Judith, she really is a credit to the hotel she is friendly, hardworking, enthusiastic, funny, helpful and made all of us feel relaxed and comfortable. We would like you to say a special thank you to Judith on our behalf for being fantastic! She is amazing at her job! The activities she did throughout the day kept us entertained (especially darts and ping pong) At night the entertainment was very good with a wide range of things to do. The area is great with lots of shops, restaurants and bars around, there is a hill to get back up but it is worth the trip down. We are still holidaying her until Saturday but wanted to write a review to tell people how amazing it really is as some of the other reviews aren’t a true reflection! We will definitely be back next year and would like to say thank you for a great holiday! Thank you Rachel, Jason and Richard!
