“faded glamour, nice food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

We have just returned from a week at the Semiramis. Overall this is a pleasant hotel with fabulous unobstructed views over the ocean.
The rooms were spotless and the maid service fab - the only place I have ever had to ask just the once for a second pillow!
All of the rooms are north facing so don't expect to be bathed in sunshine on the balcony. I did have problems sleeping despite being on the 11th floor - this was mostly due to the crashing waves on the rocks around the seawater swimming pool. The road which runs along the front of the hotel is also rather noisy.

The hotel is a good 20 to 30 minute walk from town - costing 3.50 euros in a cab. The walk involves a good deal of steps unless you wish to walk along the main road and uo through a tunnel. This is not possible after 8pm as the access door from the road is closed at 8pm.

The buffet restaurant had a good selection of food and the service was reasonable although there was rather too much noise from staff clearing used crockery and cutlery from tables.

Be sure to arrive well before breakfast time ends as the staff readily whip everything away as soon as 10.30 arrives.

This lower floor corridors smelled of damp and the decor is mostly dark blues and golds which make the corridors feel rather gloomy. Their are patches of stained carpet and some peeling paint and wallpaper.

The lobby is bright and clean but has a post communist clinical feel.

Room Tip: choose rooms above the 9th floor to reduce impact of road noise.

Just spent a week at puerto at the best semiramis,a lot said about the rating of this hotel we were on the 8th floor a party of 4 adults 2 rooms, the 5 star parts are, the views from all aspects of the hotel, and as soon as you step out on the balcony. The staff were friendly and helpful and very hard working, especially our room maid who kept the room spotless, and the spanish barman, who looks like the late Frank Carson . The drinks in the bar were very reasonable, as was the wine in the restaurant , we all thought the food, breakfast and evening meal were 1st class all tastes caterered for, could have gone vegetarian the salads were so good, lots of meat, fish, you name it all very good. The faded glory bits, its a bit old fashioned, the rooms and the colour scheme could do with a revamp a lot of the chairs need recovering, and aside from the flamenco dancers, the entertainment didnt suit us,But they are our only criticisms, would we go again? The price of this package was very good for what we paid for a winter break, if we could get a similar package we would go again without hesitation.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a good view cannot comment on other floors. Use the service lift on the 8th f...

As a wheelchair user, who travels alone, I want to warn others that the Semiramis is not wheelchair friendly. It seems to me the Spanish think that, if they have a ramp in place, it is wheelchair friendly despite the gradient!! I needed assistance to get out of the hotel, to go to the swimming pool area and to the bar. Once outside the hotel, the inclines were too steep for me unassisted. The British Standard for ramps/slopes is 1.12 unassisted and 1.16 assisted. My arms and shoulders tell me that the gradients of the slopes at the Semiramis were more than 2.2 and I would hazzard a guess that the entrance would be more than 3.3!

I concur with other reviews, this is not a 5 star, but a 3. Bad service from some staff on reception (Ernesto) and in the restaurant/bar (Carmelo) both extremely rude on occasion.

Rooms smelled of bad sewage, towels paper-thin, room gloomy, very noisy at night - traffic and waves, all balconies faced north so no sun, only one bar open during the day which was outside and, even though there were cold days, the inside bar was not opened! Entertainment was appalling, but it did clear the bar so service was better!

The food was very good and the chefs excellent. This is the only positive thing I can say about the hotel and would definitely not return.

Room Tip: If you want to sleep, choose a floor higher than 10

In some websites the hotel is shown as being 5 start, but on the hotel sign itself it shows 4 stars, I think this is a better reflection of what you get here. The hotel is big (bit brash from the outside - most the hotels in the area are rather ugly 1970s buildings), but the position is good - all bedrooms and the reception rooms, dining rooms have uninterrupted views of the sea (there is a busy road that runs between the coast and the hotel, though!). Our bedroom was comfortable rather than luxurious, but was clean and very well serviced each day. I found the food really good, very big buffet selections that were constantly replenished and had changes of main dishes each evening, so you didnt get too tired of the same thing every night. Hotel generally caters for groups and slightly older client, but also couples and a few children when we were there. Outside areas are well kept and pool areas were attractive. Hotel has lots of services (hairdresser, shop, entertainment in the bar each night). I thought for what we paid it was very good value and would recommend. We had no problems parking hire car in street outside.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors may have less road noise...?

No idea how often the Spanish tourist board update their ratings but this is not 5*. I must have been there at the same time as Judith M and echo most of her comments. The corridors are rather dim as there is no daylight and the vinyl on the walls is a dull colour. Whole place in need of another upgrade. At busy times the bar staff are not very good at serving customers in order. The manager worked very long hours and listened to all suggestions. Very popular with keen walkers from Germany, some of whom have no manners at all. For what I paid for all-inclusive I have no real complaints.

Room Tip: If traffic or sea (!) noise bothers you go for a room on a high numbered floor.
