The Hotel Central is completely delightful. It is very small, beautifully decorated in shabby chic style, mostly in white tones, with large rooms by European standards and spotlessly clean. It is a bit difficult to find as the entrance is neatly hidden on a pedestrian walkway under some lovely shade trees and the signage is discreet. However, once there you will find charming, friendly and helpful staff and a lovely gauzy atmosphere that will be enchanting. Just around the corner, either direction, are very reasonably priced eateries and locations for al fresco dining or just enjoying wine/drinks. Walking to the beach is quick and via passing through the main shopping area if that is of interest. We were there on a weekend and found a lovely local crafts market open on both Saturday and Sunday. It appears that is a standard feature and the crafts were of excellent quality and good variety. If you arrive in Gijon by bus, the Hotel Central is one block away. The front desk is not staffed overnight but there is an "assistant" on the premises for urgent needs. While there is no elevator, there is an elevator chair to assist someone who cannot climb the one level staircase to reach the rooms. The one shortcoming is the very narrow shower with an awkward corner closing glass door which could be difficult to navigate for a large person.

Room Tip: The street side room was a bit noisy with the window open. There are rooms that do not open to the street, I believe.

I agree with the recent review by jean-luc T. This hotel is tastefully decorated and has a slightly quirkiness about it. Nearly everything is white and most of the things we saw are from Ikea, but it doesn't feel at all like a budget hotel. It is light and airy and spotlessly clean and well located in the centre of Gijon. We were made to feel so welcome - I haven't experienced this level of hospitality in a long time. None of the staff spoke English and we don't speak Spanish, but this made communication (by way of mime for much of the time) quite hillarious. Parking is not ideal - there is an underground car park nearby but it was not so easy to find. The parking rate is discounted for hotel guests though and it was quite cheap. Gijon was a lovely place to spend a weekend and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. It really was a little gem.

This is a very nice hotel in the center of Gijon. The rooms are comfortable and decorated with taste. The breakfast is good with quality teas. Most of all the people are very carefull, kind and friendly. The only little inconvenient is that the parking is a little bit far from the hotel.
