Owner description: Beyond the Iberian peninsula most people are rather uncomfortable about bullfighting, which makes a visit to this venerable bullring with attached museums all the more fascinating – not least for those who would never consider attending a bullfight. An inspection of the ring, and the backstage facilities that sustain it (the Plaza, of necessity, has its own ER) is a good counterpoint to a browse around a museum which is full of artwork and costumes celebrating the skill of the matador together with the mounted heads of their animal nemeses. Go with an open mind and you’ll leave with a much better understanding of bullfighting’s place in the life and culture of Andalucía.

Arena is a must see. Tour is part of the attraction. It's a goid introduction to the culture of bullfighting in Seville. A scroll in the center of the bull fighting arena will give you a feel of how awesome and dangerous the sport can be.
Tickets are reasonably priced. Children under 12 enter for free.

Tours of the bullring take place every 20minutes, so there is never too long to wait (with the exception of between 3.30 and 4.50 so be aware of that).

I enjoyed the tour and the building is very impressive but as you have to go on a ‘guided’ tour (you’ll actually have an audio guide and someone will usher you around), you can often feel you rush through some rooms and have no opportunity to go back.

The tour takes you through the history of bullfighting, then through the steps of a matador before they take to the ring.

On the day we visited a local school was being shown the basics on bull fighting in the ring itself so our tour only took in the stands. While watching the children was very entertaining, it did take a little from the spectacle by not being able to go into the ring itself.

I would go again - in fact, I almost feel I need to as you are so rushed around by your guide! Be prepared to take everything in at the pace of a raging bull.

This is known as the cathedral of bullfighting. It’s a leisurely walk here after touring Metropol Parasol using Google compass, a city map, and the recognition that city maps are east west oriented (vs online north south configuration), and that same street might bear many names. The historic bull ring is located next to a very busy boulevard. Admission is 8 euros. The guided tour through the museum and the ring arena took 45 minutes. Listening to self guide audio device, we walked through the museum learning of the history and rituals associated with bullfighting. Then we got to see the real bullring! Well worth the admission. Note there is a flamingo adjacent building on our way to the nearby Mercado del Barranco for lunch.

I'm pretty anti-bull fighting. I find the whole thing barbaric, cruel and unnecessary. However, it is classically Spanish and especially Andalusian so, when in Seville, it's almost an obligatory visit.

The tour immerses the visitor in the history and culture of bull fighting and the preliminary 'backstage' tour, with a good audioguide, provides a firm grounding that makes sense of the visit to the bull ring itself.

We visited out of season and that's the way I prefer it.

I don't agree with the whole concept of bull fighting, but it was actually really interesting place to visit and learn about.
