I wanted to chose a special place in Granada to celebrate with our daughter her 30th birthday and we were not disappointed. We had the tastings menu paired with wine for a very reasonable 90 euros per head. There were 14 courses. The food was imaginative and delicious and the service was excellent. Our waiter even noticed our daughter was left handed and set her cutlery for each course appropriately. A very memorable dinner for all the right reasons.

My hubby and I are staying at this lovely little hotel in the middle of Granada. So we decided to book dinner at the hotels restaurant La Fabula. What a treat!! Being honest - there were some strange bits. The wine list was indecipherable and had stickers all over it. Not hugely helpful. And the menu was a tad tricky to understand - despite being translated into English. So hubby and I decided to go the whole hog and have the tasting menu with wine.

What a good choice. It came thick and fast - with extra bits on top. There was never a 5 minute gap without some food Infront of us. Most of it was terrific - including the monkfish and a Kobe mini burger that literally melted in our mouths. Some was a bit odd - a rubber thing with 2 actual rubbers to keep it company and a paucity of puddings. However, what really made it were the fabulous front of house, the entertaining explanations of our food, the wine glasses which were kept full and the occasional moments of culinary brilliance. A very fine serving amongst a city of free tapas and hams. Bravo.

Although a little more expensive than most places in Granada, this restaurant provides a creative and clever tasting experience of andalusian flavours in a combination of fine local products, well cooked and well paired, along with some creative add-ons which are brought to you as amuse-bouche along the course of your lunch (wether you opted for a menu or just took one course does not matter, which is great).

My only deception here was the espresso. After such a good lunch, I expected a flavourful one but found theirs to be a little too acidic and not flavourful enough.

The menu selection was interesting and a true culinary experience. Beautiful presentation and very good good service. Pre-dinner drinks were the only part of the evening that could be improved; a dry martini should not be served on the rocks.

We had a fantastic dinner here. Having eaten the gastronomic menu in El Claustro two days earlier I can say without doubt this place beats the pants off El Claustro on price, taste, imagination and quality of the dishes. The only thing it can't beat is the medieval setting but who cares.

Hats off to front of house and the extremely talented chefs working there. We will definitely dine there again next time we are in Granada !
