We made a night's stop at Granada to visit the Alhambra; and Hotel Casa 1800 turned out to be the ideal for our needs. A very well appointed spacious hotel that made for a relaxing stay. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for a more convenient location with nearly everything (Alhambra and other sights, restaurants etc) at a comfortably walking distance. The location of the hotel itself, though not completely accessible by a cab .. is just a couple of minutes walk from the main square and not worthy of a mention as a criticism. The quiet comfort, yet modern amenities of Casa 1800 reminded us of why we had chosen this elegant hotel in the heart of an old world culture.

Ditto all the great things written. Not only historic, but so very beautiful - loved the chandeliers. Delicious breakfast with fresh hot croissants. Lovely afternoon tea. We had a room with a small terrace looking up to the alhambra - wow! The only negative: there is not any laundry service at this hotel. Nor are there any laundromats in Granada. So if you need some clothes cleaned, head to a Lavaria (dry cleaners) 2-3 miles away. And be sure to get there before 2 PM siesta time. We ended up doing the wash in the bath tub and drying over the radiator. It worked out.

The Hotel Casa 1800 is a charming hotel in a great location. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. However, there were some problems that detracted from our enjoyment, and that you should be aware of if you are considering staying here.

First, the hotel can be a challenge to find if you are driving, particularly if you arrive at night. The hotel provided instructions, but between the extensive road construction as you enter the city and the difficulty determining what street you're on at night, it's easy to get lost (we did). It took us almost 2 hours to get to the hotel from the outskirts of Granada. NOTE: ignore your GPS -- it will only get you hopelessly lost, as you can only drive to a plaza (Plaza Nueva) a few hundred yards from the hotel. If you're going to drive, ask the hotel for the exact address of the parking lot so that you can plug it into your GPS. Let me repeat: don't plug the hotel address into your GPS -- it's a big MISTAKE.

Second, the hotel is built around a central enclosed courtyard. Our room was very close to the entrance and directly above the reception desk, and we could hear literally every converation as if the people were talking right in our room. The sound proofing was poor to non-existent. The situation was compounded by the fact that our room was warm (even with the heat turned off) and the only window opened to an interior corridor (we had no exterior window). Thus, our room was both hot and noisy, and we had a terrible night's sleep. Unless you're an extremely sound sleeper, I can't imagine that you wouldn't have the same problem, particularly if you have a room close to the hotel entrance (which I would avoid at all costs).

Room Tip: Unless you are an extraordinarily sound sleeper, avoid the rooms near the hotel entrance.

I was staying in this Hotel for 2 night with tow kids.. Very special place, this is exactly what you need when you are in Granada. I think our trip wouldn't be so nice if I chose another Hotel.. Location is great, Stuff was very friendly and very supportive. All Hotel is so clean and properly looked after. very comfortable bed, very good bathroom.. Our room was No6 - it has 3 windows, tow from the room, one from the bath, that are looking to the inside terrace, we loved that. Unforgettable experience.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. I arrived with a dreadful migraine after a long journey and although I was too early to check in, Francis immediatley made me feel at home and showed me to another room so that I could lie down and recover. My sister, her partner and another couple joined me the second day and like my room, theirs were clean and stylish. The beds were very comfortable, no money spared on mattress and bed clothes . Afternoon tea had the best chocolate donuts ever (thankfully also served at breakfast!). It was good to help yourself to hot and cold soft drinks, sandwiches, yoghurts and cakes. The central courtyard was classic; I have some lovely photos. Great location for site seeing the Al Hambra. I look forward to visiting their sister hotel in Seville.....

Room Tip: Superior rooms were lovely
