We were told by our hotel that we would be lucky to get a table but we called and were successful. It is a small restaurant with only about 14 covers. Although there was a sign on the door advising customers that they were fully booked at least 6 couples came in hoping that there may be cancellations. The service, food and wine were all really good. Chris was knowledgeable about the menu and recommended wines to compliment the dishes. Amazing, if we return to Granada we will certainly visit again.

Amazing food! Table reservation is a must. The restaurant was fully booked, but we called there in the morning anyway. Got the table to same evening by some last minute cancellation. Relaxed place, reasonable prices. Loved it!

We looked at Trip Advisor before we went to Granada to find a good restaurant and oh boy El Mercader did not disappoint. This small (about 25 covers) and intimate restaurant is run by a husband and wife team, Cris and Nuria. Cris is an excellent and welcoming host who speaks faultless English and has a fantastic knowledge of his wine list. Nuria is an exceptional chef and delivered probably one of the best meals we have ever had. The menu is limited, which is always a good sign, and could not be faulted. What I thought was a really nice touch was at the end of the meal. After consuming a very nice bottle of red with our meal, we fancied another glass of a different red. Cris brought us a bottle he recommended and said just drink what you want and I will charge accordingly - we had a glass each and Cris charged 8 Euros - unbelievable hospitality. I woud have no hesitation in recommending Le Mercader, but a word of advice - you need to book in advance. When we visited Cris must have turned at least half a dozen people away. Finally, you must try the apple, goat cheese and reduced raisins wine mille-feuile; the mushroom risotto with truffle oil; the 30 day matured sirloin.......I could go on!! Try it for yourself it will be truly memorable

I'm not sure I can add anything else that has not been said. This is indeed a special restaurant. The food was fabulous. Chris brought us out a complimentary bouche to start with (I think it was salmon based). We then split an order of the mushroom risotto. It was so creamy and cooked to perfection with lots of mushrooms giving it delicious earthy character. Chef Nuria shared her secret with us. She adds 2 TBS of cream to the dish when she adds the parmesan . My wife had the Tuna Tartare as a main. She hates raw fish but raved about how good it was. I had the Duck which was cooked in a red wine reduction...yum! We then split a dessert ...goat cheese cake with pumpkin ice cream. Along with a bottle of spanish red we were in heaven!

We arrived late to Granada and the restaurant we had originally wanted to go to was closed. A quick search and we found El Mercader, run by a husband and wife team. He’s front of the house and she is the chef. We arrived to a fully booked sign on the door but took our chances. There was a spot at the bar he graciously offered us.
We apologized for just showing up, seeing how busy they were, but he made us feel welcome. We ordered a soup and mushroom risotto to share, as well as a bottle of Cava, which was superb!
He brought out an amazing salmon mousse amuse bouche! So delicious! The chicken and cilantro soup was so good, it was hard to share! The risotto was delicious as well. We saw a dessert feature go by, seeing how good it looked we had to order it!
We tried to come the next night but without a reservation but he couldn’t fit us in. Love this restaurant! Highlight of our visit to Granada!
