We went there in October 2024 during a 11 days getaway in Spain. We live spanish food and we were always hesitant to go for anything else during our stay. We did have much meat there, staying with safe bets like fish, seafoods and, of course the traditional tapas, Then one night we felt for something different without going extreme like italian, asian or something else that had high chance to disappoint us. This where our story starts with Kortxo ! The name does not create any buzz. The restaurant is small and is located a little more remotely from the busiest streets of Malaga Historico Center…. But it is worth a try, believe me !
The Food at Kortxo is different Versus what you find in most traditional Spanish restaurants. We love Spanish cuisine but if you feel for something different but still excellent, try this small non-pretentious restaurant in the Historic Center of Malaga. We did not reserve and they were able to give us a table given that we were just 2 and that it was a quiet evening in general in the area. If I was to do it again, I would reserve and not be disappointed. The server, July (from Russia) knows here menu very well and makes good recommendations. She is quite patient as we asked a ton of questions. The menu is different Vs the traditional Tapas and Seafood restaurant that end up all serving pretty much the same food. That was refreshing. And the prices are about the same. The creativity here is what stands out ! We had the « patatas bravas » for a starter. Totally different vs anything we’ve had so far a d excellent ! We also had the Rochers (like the Ferrero’s)…. balls made of foie gras ! Wow ! Then I had a risotto with shrimps and scallops. I would have love to have bigger scallops in the plate but the rest was amazing. Very tasteful ! My partner had the Cod and it was delicious as well ! We finished with the Pear in Red Wine with Dark chocolate for dessert ! It was great for the eyes and the mouth ! A great experience that we highly recommend if you want a little chance after nights and nights of traditional spanish cuisine without going for a « fake » italian or something totally « non-Spanish » / Here, as they say, it’s more fusion that a departure from Spanish food which is great ! They mix different influences to serve a brillant cuisine coupled with great service and reasonable prices ! Try it, you’ll see bu yourself
