Barcelo did not let us know that this hotel had been taken over by Exe, we booked last February Stayed here may 8th for 7 days, location awful, busy motorwayA7 practically on the doorstep, scruffy, rubbish strewn area surrounding hotel, noisy traffic and not pleasant to walk, even to bus stop. Beach at least a 20 minute walk across motorway via bridge. Taxi fair to/from estapona 15to17 euros so unless you have plenty of money to spare, forget it!! Hotel was advertising 10 minute walk to Estapona but now revised to 10 minute drive, it is 10 kms to Estapona town. We were half board, the dinner food was dire, most of the food cold, I complained once and was told there was a microwave!!! It did not change, food that should be hot was cold or lukewarm all week. Don't be fooled by description of a peaceful stroll around the gardens, only garden is around the pool and this might take you a minute to walk around. My elderly parents were with us and there was nothing to easily walk to, do not bring anyone with poor mobility here, the shower over bath is difficult and slippery for them to use. There was no entertainment except showing the football and the motor racing. Not enough staff, waiting at bar for someone to serve was commonplace. Room was passable, clean, nothing special.very disappointing and will not return.

Disappointed to discover that the hotel is not a 10 minute walk to the centre of Estepona but a 20 minutes drive by car. When this was highlighted with the staff at reception a mere shrug of the shoulders was offered as an observation of this gross misrepresentation, very disappointing.

Hotel visited prior to the Exe take over, booked under Barcelo Hotels Group. On arrival no mention was made that 2 day’s into our stay that Exe were taking over the hotel under new management. A €30 charge was added to hotel bill under Barcelo Group for a service we had not used. I.e. use of the hotel spa, as the hotel had already been taken over by Exe, they didn’t want to help in refunding the money that was fraudulently taken out of bank account, excuse after excuse given, until refund could only be made by complaining about it to bank themselves. This severely took a huge amount of time out of my stay and subsequently ruined holiday. Hotel was unable to provide a reason for this fraudulent transaction claiming only that it had been an “accident”. Hotel room not as shown in pictures advertised on Hotels.com as bathroom had a terrible orange sink counter and the shower leaked from under the screen due to there being no guard to prevent water from spilling onto the floor-dangerous! Multiple towels therefore had to be used to soak up the problem. Pointless mini bar fridge as it wasn’t even on. Gym had no ventilation and therefore too stuffy working up a sweat.

Asking for ice was hassle at the bar and no option for tap water to be ulnar therefore paying €3 for a bottle!

Outside swimming pool was freezing even on hot days and not cleaned regularly. Many guests commenting on the amount of scum and mildew seen. Sunbeds could do with renovation as wood had become very flaky and dehydrated.

Overall despicable service as other guests arrived confused that the hotel had been taken over by Exe even though they had booked under Barcelo.

We went over a weeks period and this hotel was in a great location for us! During the week we were able to go to Marbella, Estepona and even took a day trip to Gibraltar! It was in the middle of everything with good transport links! The only negatives was that the breakfast wasn’t always warm (however I know it’s a buffet so we understand) and the toilet didn’t flush properly as it required you to stand there and press the button down the whole time. The spa is a good price for guests and the bar also had very good prices!

We stayed in this hotel late February 2018 for 4 nights. We took the flights from Leeds to Malaga where we picked up our rental car and drove approximately about 1.5 hours to reach this destination. The location of the hotel is pretty poor, next to a busy high way about 15minutes drive from the centre of Estepona and the beach. I am glad that we rented a car, otherwise we would’ve been locked up at the hotel. We decided that we are going to leave the car at the nearby shop’s car park as the hotel would’ve charge us an additional 20€/night for parking. The establishment itself is very modern, very high tech with great views from the lifts, an outdoor swimming pool and nice well equipped and reasonably sized rooms with balconies king size beds an spacious bathrooms with shower over the bath. Sadly I can’t tell anything about the spa facilities as on principal I refused to pay additional 15€/person for 90minutes and I also didn’t like the fact that you had to prebook before you could even go and have a look around. I have been in many many spa hotels in the past, and I never heard of such a thing that you must pre book to go and enjoy the jacuzzi or the sauna and certainly not for a limited time and for extra charge. I would understand the fee if I wouldn’t be the guest of the hotel, just walking in from the street to use this facilities but as a hotel guest I expected this for free of charge. That is why I gave the “Misleading advertisement” title because the main reason we choose this hotel is that it said: Adults ONLY SPA hotel. Otherwise we could’ve booked a different hotel next to the beach possibly for even less but anyway.. next time I’m gonna do a better homework before I book anywhere.
the buffet breakfast was about average, nothing special.
All in all it is a great place BUT they should make it clearer for potential guests through the booking process that what are they signing up for, what is included and what isn’t and also how much extra they will have to pay.
