We booked a suite in this little gem of a place, very roomy and a wonderful view of the beach, perfect in every way! It is pricey, but the view and the nice breakfast (with a view!) are all worth it. Would love to stay here again, very comfortable room, bed, large bathroom with the usual amenities and the decor is very pleasing to the eye. Staff at times a bit stretched at breakfast.

Room Tip: downstairs suite is really where you want to stay!

My wife and I were booked for four nights at this hotel. When we arrived, we realized that Travemünde was nowhere near as nice as we were expecting (jellyfish and rocks all over the beach, a noisy and tacky boardwalk, etc.). We decided to get out of there and go to Berlin instead.

When I advised the front desk, they explained that their policy was to charge 80% of the reservation. OK, if that's what we agreed to, that's what we agreed to. But what really disgusted me is that they first indicated that it was out of their hands since we'd reserved through another travel website and that it was that site's policy that applied. When I phone the site's customer service, they informed me that this was not the case. Then when I went back to the front desk to try and negotiate something (maybe only pay for some of the nights or ask for a refund if they manage to rebook the room) I found them completely unresponsive, with the lady telling me that "no one" can change their cancellation policy. I asked, "not even the owner?" She replied, "No one."

So they lied to me not once, but twice. First, they tried to use the website as an excuse as to why they had no flexibility and when I caught them lying, they flat out insulted my intelligence by claiming that no human being alive had the power to change their policy, as if I was asking them to stop the rain.

Shame on you, Hotel Strandschlösschen, and shame on the liars who work for you.
