A good hostel in a beautiful city

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 May 2023via mobile
Louise 20 was quite a good hostel. It’s location was about a 20 minute walk from the centre of Dresden, which was a safe, pedestrianised, well lit walk along a long plaza with shops the whole way, and over the main bridge. It was near a pubs, grocery shops, laundromats, and in a good lively and safe area with a tram stop nearby that went directly to the army museum and to the city centre.

The staff were professional and friendly, and spoke satisfactory English. The kitchen was pretty good, with all the amenities one would require, and was clean and homely. The common room was small and pleasant with sofas, a tv, and next to the kitchen.

The hostel wasn’t very busy when we went there; we only noticed a few different guests the whole time, most of them being German rather than international backpackers.

The room was quite good; it had large lockers and quiet wooden bunk beds, with opaque curtains and plugs by each bed. It was very clean.

The bathroom was in the corridor and was lockable and fully private, and was very clean.

We checked in at 4 p.m, the weather was really bad. We came in the room, it was freezing there. The windows were wide open. Instead of getting some rest we had to close the windows, turn on the radiators and go somewhere else to warm up. When we returned at 10 p.m. our room was still very cold. It turned out the heating is not working in the whole building and the management knows about it! The reception guy tried to help us for an hour and in the end gave as a heating device.
The hostel is clean, personal is friendly and helpful but it is very disappointing to sit in your hotel room in a coat with a red nose.

Great hostel in an excellent location close to the Neustadt and a 15-20 minute walk from the historical district. We stayed in one of the private rooms which are in a "flat" type arrangement with a shared bathroom in the block across the courtyard from the main hostel. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff at reception were friendly and helpful. There is a great/pub restaurant in the same complex and the hostel does a discounted breakfast there which is recommended.

The rooms were fine and had everything you need but our biggest problem were the women’s showers. They have see through screens and are right next to each other and across from the toilets so there is no privacy. I felt very awkward using the shower and my friend refused too. Wouldn’t stay here again.

I often stay in hostels and this is by far the best one I've been.
I went there with a friend because another hostel we previously booked and paid there was nobody and we were willing to know what happened, so we asked the receptionist for help, without telling her we wanted to sleep there. She called people for 15 minutes to know what happened with the other hostel. She found out the other hostel was probably closed so we slept there. Great service. Price is average for Germany. Very charming atmosphere, not very far from the centre of the city (1,5 km).
