Thermen am Viehmarkt

To be honest I would not pay to visit this place. You can pretty much see all of it through the window and they tend to have one exhibit or other going on which makes it more of a market than a roman baths. Certainly worth looking through the window for free but paying the entrance fee.......no, I don't think so.

Nice and impressive to look around...makes you wonder what else is hidden under your feet. Only negative is this 'new artsy' staff which they are displaying-takes the attention away and is (in my opinion) nothing special or something I would want to see

Thermen are preset through Trier in many places. This site has a covered exhibit. However, the display and "imagination" is maybe not the best what Trier can offer.

What do you think, what may represent interest in abandoned Roman baths for modern man? Properly, virtually nothing. Moreover, in their deplorable condition in which they were the entire time, being in fact a quarry for new construction in the city. But they built a building over it with five "tiers" of glass panels, and everything became completely different. First, it is possible now at least to visit and see the baths. And secondly, the baths became good scenic venue for various city events, including wine festivals. Regretfully, I was in Trier at the wrong time – the old vintage has been already spilled, and the new one didnot even ripe.

We arrived at the ruins of the Roman baths on Viehmarkt (“Thermen am Viehmarkt” in German) after closing time (5 p.m.) but were able to have a good look at the site through the windows of the huge glass case designed by Oswald Mathias Ungers to protect the ruins. If you have seen other Roman baths in Trier or elsewhere, it doesn’t seem worth to pay the 4 euro entrance fee.
