So VERY convenient for the airport AND rail and bus travel. Each form of transport just 2 minutes from the hotel lobby.
We attended the Pro-Wein Exhibition at the Messe Nord and unlike many who no doubt use the hotel as a one night stop over, we stayed at the hotel for the duration of our 5 day stay in Dusseldorf. It is pretty much perfect.
My only gripe, and it's a small one - the view from our room was simply a view of the other rooms in the opposite wing.
However, everything else about this hotel was spot on.
We booked a superior room, so it was spacious with a large bathroom and on the seventh floor. It was absolutely spotless. Two large twin beds pushed together made for the largest 'double' bed we've ever slept in. Separate duvets meant no arguing over who hogged all the cover!
Very comfortable, VERY quiet, controllable aircon/heating, easily opened windows for us fresh air fiends. Pricy mini bar, but aren't they always? Well stocked and replenished daily.
Powerful shower and hairdryer in bathroom. Large mirror and magnified shaving mirror (so useful for putting on make-up!). Plenty of power points for phone chargers, laptops, hair straighteners etc.
Four lifts to swish you to your room or the lobby in super quick time.
Supreme buffet style breakfast. We didn't really get chance to try everything on offer, despite how long we stayed. Countless types of ultra fresh bread and rolls on offer. Endless choice of hard and soft cheeses. A multitude of cold meats and sausages (hot and cold). Fresh fruit and more and more....we didn't eat again until the evening....
The inside of Morley's Bar is open to smokers and offers a very relaxed vibe with a good range of (pricy) drinks. The terrace area of the bar (although this is still inside the hotel) offers a drinking area for those who do not wish to smoke.
There's also a sushi restaurant, a Rheinish eatery for local fare and an a la carte restaurant.
Wanting to see as much of Dusseldorf and Cologne as we could, we chose to travel by train for much of our time and the 'S' line station is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel next to the airport. You can buy your tickets from the machine on the platform - just select the Union Jack icon if you want the instructions in English. We travelled from the hotel to the main station in Dusseldorf which is listed on the screen as 'Dusseldorf hbf'. From there, Germany is literally your oyster.
Do travel to the Old Town of Dusseldorf, right on the Rhine and make Cologne (Koln) a day trip too.
All in all a lovely 5 day stay, made particularly so by the comfort and splendour of the Maritim Hotel.
