Important to note: there are 2 Derag Livinghotels in Dusseldorf:
Derag Livinghotel de Medici Dusseldorf (5 star) & Derag Livinghotel Dusseldorf (4 star).
To be frank, somehow, when booking a flight & hotel package on Expedia I booked the 4 star hotel which is situated outside of the main part of the city. (30 minutes stroll - 20 minutes for fit, fast-walkers!). I meant to book the Medici hotel - which my wife kept reminding me!!

Still, I want to be fair to this hotel, so I have waited a week before posting this review.

It is a nice, clean, hotel close to the underground and with buses nearby. There is a supermarket, a couple of bars and some restaurants nearby. It appeared quite safe, although the neighbourhood does not compare to the city, which we really like.

I rate it somewhere between average to good. It depends on the price you pay. In my opinion it is good value at £70/night, which is what we paid. Beds were okay, but the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. Our room opposite the church was very noisy. You could hear traffic from the nearby roads day and night. Roadworks directly opposite started at 7.15am. For a first visit to a Derag Hotel which was not busy, it would have made our experience more enjoyable to have been given a quieter room. The small bar area by reception was far too smokey for us to enjoy a drink there. (The door was left open so cigarette smoke could be smelt in reception and beyond). Upon checking-in we were told the breakfast times and that it was 18 Euros each. Previous TA reviews meant we would not be having breakfast there. The room and suite were clean. it was only 4 stops to the AldStadt, which to be honest is arguably the best part of the city to stay. It is where everything goes on, the best bars, nightlife, eating places, Christmas Markets are. Disappointed that the Derag website gives SOME information, regarding getting to the hotel, but it is not accurate. There are underground trains you can take, buses and trams from the hotel, and more than one route back to the airport. It would be helpful and good for this Derag hotel if they described these. We wasted time walking and catching the one recommended route. Small things - but important if you are there for a few days.

If you are on a budget then this hotel could be considered as an ideal hotel as a base. However, whilst we enjoyed our break in Dusseldorf, based on our experience at this hotel,we are unlikely to book a Derag Hotel again.

Room Tip: Not "City" side or on the roads.

Stayed here for 3 weeks on a business trip . Was lucky to get upgraded to a suite which had a separate living room , bed room and small kitchen.

The suite was well appointed.

The property is well located with lot of eating places nearby. The river front is a short walk and is a nice place for a run.

The kirchplatz metro station is bang opposite the hotel so commuting is not a problem .

The breakfast is ok and enough to survive.

Wast very happy with house keeping as they would not clean the room completely and an empty shampoo bottle would remain like that . Same with the kitchen . Any property with a kitchen should be cleaned including any crockery .

I also thought not replenishing the toiletries was cheap .

We stayed in this hotel for four days and it was a good hotel with fantastic staff . They could not do enough for our group of seven . From excellent breakfast to organising a limo service on the few days we were there. Only draw back was that the residents bar was closed for the weekend as staff were sick but we made do . Thank you

Not too far from the downtown/train station area. friendly staff, easy check in/check out, an OK breakfast (not great). clean rooms.
The worst part was the hotel selection of the mattress were of a better quality (really bad for your back).

overall I believe it provided good value for money as a business hotel and for a short stay.
