My wife and visited this new attraction on the Baltic coast on a cold day, and followed the orange line through this spectacular new building, past all the displays. These featured everything that lives in, on or flies over the North and Baltic Seas. It is a feast of models and live exhibits depicting man's involvement with the Seas over the centuries, the energy of the waves, and the problem of industrial scale fishing- a breathtaking and authoritative lesson for us in a visit that lasted for over 3 compelling hours, with the strap line "what we know is a drop in the ocean of what we do not know"! Afterwards, we just had to enjoy a mouthwatering ice cream in the quayside cafe. Strongly Rrcommended for a visit.

Thank Ted B

The models of East German trawlers and the huge fishing nets make you realize how big fishing is ruining the oceans.

showing all you need to know about sea life and fishing. Nicely presented. Avoid cafeteria. Even though supposedly operated by one of the better hotels in Stralsund they have not managed to shake off the old DDR-feel in more than 20 years!

This is the old, original "sea museum" in Stralsund, the Ozeaneum is the new addition. While the Ozeaneum focuses on the ocean and everything connected, this one focuses on fishing & the sea. Here you'll find fish tanks with tropical fish and a large tank with big sea turtles (which the Ozeaneum doesn't have). There is also a collection of shells and a whale skeleton. Although the museum is old, it's nicely done and still interesting. If you go with non-German speaking children it can be a problem that almost all explanation is in German only, some headings are in English. The museum is located in a former Dominican monastery. The entrance fee is 7.5 EUR for adults, there's an interesting combi-ticket with the Ozeaneum for 18 EUR (single ticket Ozeaneum is 14 EUR). If you buy a combi-ticket here, you can jump the queue at the Ozeaneum.
