“Great Cable Car Ride up to Niederwald Monument”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2011

While in Rudesheim Germany, we took the cable car (2 people per tram bucket) up to the Niederwald Monument. (It's a short walk from where you get off the cable car to the monument.) The view up the hill from the cable car is amazing & beautiful --- the vineyards, towns & Rhine River. That alone is well worth the trip! Then we walked the short distance to the beautiful & impressive Niederwald Monument. We thoroughly enjoyed it & would definitely recommend it!!! It's a great way to see a lot of the beautiful countryside and the historical monument.

“A bit of history and plenty of good photos”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2010

Regardsless of the reasons for your visit, this is a must-see. The view over the Rhine and the wine-growing area around is astonishing. On top, you get an impressive contemporary document of German 19th century history. A bit further downhill you can enjoy some regional and seasonal food in a nice little restaurant.

“Great Ride, Great View and Fine Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2009

If in Rudesheim, be sure to take the chair lift to see the Niederwald Monument. The monument is worth the trip, but the ride and view are the real treat. Link this with a
restaurant that you have to walk a little bit down the mountain to get to. This restaurant provides excelletent views while you drink a local beer or a Rudesheim coffee, which is brandy mixed with coffee.

“A great monument with a view!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2009

For 11 Euro/person, take the 2-person cable car up through the wineyards to the wanderweg (walkway) and to the monument. Having been through Europe, this is the most accessible and most well maintained monument I've seen so far. The clear blue sky behind it made it a spectacular site. Enjoy some lunch while you're there too on their many benches or monument steps. Take a moment to enjoy both its view and that of the Rhein River below. Follow this with a 5km (3-mile) walk through the vineyards and walk down to Assmannhausen for a Riesling or Spatburgender while waiting for the boat ride back to Rudesheim (another option is to take a cable car back down but you miss out on the boat ride w/ the same ticket)

“Amazing tourist value--more than just the monument”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2009

The monument is only a small part of the experience. Taking the cable car up to the monument offers amazing sight-seeing possibilities for very little money. For just 11 euro, you can buy a circle ticket that includes the ride up one side of the hill to the monument, from which you'll look out over the vineyards and the Rhine. Then, if you've chosen the circle ticket (instead of the basic roundtrip ticket, which would take you back down the way you came) you'll go down the other side of the hill to Ammanshausen. From there, there's a boat ride on the Rhine back to Ruedesheim. For an extra euro, the circle ticket becomes the "Romantik" ticket and entrance to a castle is thrown in. I've been a lot of places in Germany, and I've taken a few Rhine cruises. This is a very good value for a traveler to Germany.
