New Montevideo has been completely refurbished and the result is very good indeed. Indoors is very smart, with wall lighting and a relatively neutral colour scheme. It is welcoming and has the air of casual sophistication. Outdoor eating is available during the summer months. The restaurant overlooks the beautiful Viktoria Louise Platz.
The menu is typical Italian, with the emphasis on simplicity but using very fresh ingredients. House pastas are excellent but occasionally could do with a little more flavour - the linguini com calamari is somewhat bland and a little short on calamari. The buffalo mozzarella salad with fresh basil and tomato is very tasty. Condiments are supplied on each table.
Deserts are unexceptional.
The wine list is primarily Italian in origin, with the Rose by the glass a particularly interesting wine.
Service is generally very good with that Italian joie de vivre, which is particularly appealing.
