We stayed 4 nights in this hotel and wish we stayed more! Very comfy hotel 4 stops out of the center of berlin, but very close to shops and stations. The staff were kind and helpful, plus it included a buffet breakfast.
Great if you want a less expensive place to stay with some privacy, it cost us the same as a hostel in berlin with 6 beds!
My husband and I (from Texas) were delighted to find a hotel so economical in Berlin!!! Our room was 55 Euros per night (the least expensive hotel in our 6-week European vacation). It included a huge breakfast buffet. The hotel is family run and the service was above and beyond what was necessary. Although the room was on the small side, it was totally adequate and super clean. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Berlin. Parking was also free.
We really enjoyed this clean, basic hotel. It was very close to the U/S-bahn station for convenient travel. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The only downside is that we had some car/train traffic noise in our room at night.
Location of hotel is great, in a quiet street 200 m from Gesundbrunnen station (S-bahn + U-bahn) / shopping mall. Staff is friendly, breakfast is good and rooms are basic but clean.
Me and my cousin stayed in the Citylight Hotel from the 10th until the 15th of August, we were in Berlin for a short summer break, and we both found this hotel to be absolutely brilliant, not too far from the central sights but far enough for it to be quiet and more local. The hotel is 5 mins from Gesundbrunnen U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations which has frequent and fast trains to the center of town, and is underneath the Gesundbrunnen Centre mall which was really nice - lots of good shops like H&M and a shop with DHL facilities for mailing letters home.
The hotel itself is incredibly quiet, I wasn't woken up at night by any noises (except for the wake up call that I ordered, and got dead on time), the rooms are big with enough room to move, have a massive cupboard, large windows which can open slightly or completely depending on the weather, and all are very well designed and modern, and they are cleaned every day with the soaps/shampoos restocked each time along with fresh sheets and towels.
The hotel has a fantastic breakfast spread, lots of meats, breads and salad, along with cereals, teas/coffees and was kept well stocked the whole time, I would have liked more of a hot choice but this is Europe, so it wasn't a problem at all. The games room has two pool tables, a big telly and vending machines for snacks, drinks and cigarettes as well as an indoor smoking room, which was handy because it was raining heavily outside. The bar is very well stocked, and also very cheap so that got used a lot! The staff are absolutely fantastic, really polite and very helpful even with my limited German.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone, and will almost certainly be coming back next year!
I have stayed at Citylight three times in the past few years, every time with at least 45 A-Level students, aged 16-19 years on average. I would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone considering a College trip to Berlin. Its location for travel into central Berlin is excellent - an easy, short trip on the S-Bahn or U-Bahn. There are plenty of food outlets available nearby (chips, noodles, burgers - all the usual high-quality, nutritious intake that teenagers adore...), and the breakfast is more than adequate.
I note that a previous contributor mentioned that his students were not allowed access to the bar. The reason for this is that kids can get extremely noisy, even when they think they are not being disruptive, and the simple remedy is to turn right out of the hotel and walk about 100 yards down the street to the 'Sheesha Bar' where they can drink, dance and chatter the night away if they want. As long as they re-enter the hotel quietly, there will be no problems.
The area is safe, reasonably clean and not particularly expensive. Citylight is an excellent place to take a student group.
