Great hotel, enormous rooms

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Aug 2013
The Mandala Suites is a great hotel in a nice central location 5 minute walk from Checkpoint Charlie. The staff are very polite and willing to help in any way they can. This hotel is unusual in the fact that it is not a full service hotel, so there is no room service and the front desk is not open 24 hours a day. The benefit though is that you get an awful lot of room for your money. We stayed in one of the Management Suites for 10 days in August and the suite was fantastic. There is a separate bedroom with a rolling dividing wall, a small kitchen, living room, enormous hall, walk in wardrobe and a separate bathroom and toilet.

Our suite was on the third floor looking out onto the street. With the windows closed it was very quiet, but with the windows open there was a fair amount of street noise quite early in the morning, rubbish collection lorries mostly. There is AC in both the bedroom and the living room so there’s no need to open the windows if the noise is going to bother you.

If I have any gripe about the room it would be that it is a little dark with not enough lighting. Even with every light in the room switched on it was still a little dim for our personal taste. The room though was very clean and comfortable and we would definitely stay here again next time we visit Berlin.

Room Tip: Choose a suite, street facing is more interesting.

I stayed in one of these apartments whilst in Berlin on business they are excellent. There was plenty of room for everything you need! The service was extremely helpful. The location was great being on the main shopping road in Berlin! The roof spa and gym is amazing a great way to relax after a hard days work! Breakfast was also very nice!

Will return if I'm ever back in Berlin.

Thanks for an enjoyable stay.

Stayed for 3 nights for business.
Positives: Centrally located. Huge clean and classy rooms (one of the biggest I've ever stayed in). Bed room and living room are separate. Clean and large bathroom. Large kitchen with big fridge and cooking space. High-tech electrical shades. Large windows. Could comfortably live here for weeks or months. Great restaurant with very nice view of the city. Supermarket not too far. Free internet. Fantastic classic German restaurant right outside the hotel (great beers and sausages, etc.)
Negative: It's not a hotel but an apartment. So, the reception is not there 24 hrs. Entering hotel late at night needs to be done from the back entrance. If you are staying out late, you better check out where the back entrance is before you go out.
Would gladly return to this place when back in Berlin. Highly recommended!

Room tip: Check out the back entrance before you go out for the night, if you don't wanna have to look for it being drank at 2 am.

Made a short visit to Berlin and stayed at Mandala Suites along Friedrichstrasse. Excellent location with the Stadmitte underground stations and Gallerie Lafayette a few steps away. Checkpoint Charlie is a nice 10 mins walk away and i walked to Brandeburg Gate and the Parliament/ Bundestag from there too.

Mandala also has a German restaurant downstairs - Maximilian - if one does not fancy a walk. In the morning, you can find a few cafes offering breakfast spread as early as 7 a.m.

The rooms/ suites are spacious with daily change for clean towels. Security is tight too as requires a key card to move up and down the elevator.

Overall, i had a pleasant stay at Mandala Suites.

We were two couples that stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The suits are huge. 2 rooms' one bedroom & one living room with kitchen. All the facilities worked just fine. The rooms are clean and quiet. Don't miss breakfast that is served on the top floor. it is delicious!!!.
The location is great. on friedrich sreet close to Brandenburg gate, the Reichstag and many other hotspots.

i stayed here for only a couple of night, which seemed such a waste. These huge, well-appointed apartments located in a quiet building right in the centre of city would be a great base for a much longer stay. Note that in Berlin being in the centre doesn't mean much except you're close to the shopping. It's such a spread out city.

The apartments would be palatial for 2 people and comfortable for a family of four. There's a fully equipped kitchen. Free fitness, sauna and wifi.

Breakfast is outrageously expensive (EUR 18) but wonderful all the same. If you're paying your own way then I suggest you buy your own food and use the kitchen. If you are spending someone's money then enjoy the breakfast!

Limited lobby opening hours mean checkout can be a pain, especially at weekends. Why not have some form of electronic checkout? Or at least put copy of bill under door of last night.

Don't confuse this with Mandala Hotel
