The two identical churches are all lit up at night and look spectacular. This area is full of lovely restaurants, shops and the best chocolate shop in the world.

The square is like a lot of open squares in Europe as far as the ground level, but the nearly identical Protestant church on the north end and the Catholic church on the south end are a testimony to the history of religious tolerance introduced to Berlin in the time of Friederich the Great. Adolph Hitler and the Third Reich represented a large aberration from Berlin's long history of openness and religious tolerance.

beautifully restaurated square full of history ; all moments of day and night shows different details and the history of centuries is visible here with visible scars left of the last days of WW2 on almost every building, nicely covered over but stil a stark reminder to all wih every bullet hole you can see ; the square has a great X-mas market but in summer lots of terraces so always something to do and a seat to find for a drink and to meet great peolpe for a talk !

Every time I visit in Berlin and I pass this square, I am charmed by it. The French and the German Dom embrace the Konzerthaus and make this location unique. Not only is it an architectoral beauty but it is such a surprising place in a city that was so often destroyed and rebuilt. The square is surrounded by very nice hotels and appartement blocks and this way, it joins Berlin of the past and Berlin of today. You best visit it in Christmas time as it has a very trendy and beautifully decorated Christmas market. It is the only market that charges money to get in but believe me, it it is worth it.
