“Home to the Tourism Center”

Reviewed 13 December 2016

This lovely building is home to the Tourism Center which has its own entry. The exterior is very nice, but sadly the little "show" that occurs hourly was a big waste of time in the cold. Two little windows open and a mechanical person in each window moves back and forth for like 5 minutes. A yawn...

This tavern is no longer a tavern but is now the tourist office. On the hour the windows open on the Councillors' Tavern to depict the drinking of 3.25 liters of wine by the mayor to save the town during the 30 years war. Don't go out of your way for this, but just see it on one of the many times you will probably pass through this area.

The tower of the Councillors Tavern has figures that at certain times of the day open up and two figures face each other and present a short show about in the past how a mayor saved the town by drinking large quantity of beer or wine not sure which.
If you are taking the Rick Steves' audio tour of Rothenburg he explains the history and of how the mayor talked a raiding party of not attacking the city if the mayor could drink 3 liters at one time. Fun reenactment.
The building is very historic and at one time was a tavern and is right next to town hall on the main plaza.

This building is on the main square and has an hourly clock display. It is related to the town mayor saving the town by drinking a lot.

The Councillors' Tavern is located on the main square so you can't miss it. It's a charming building. During the daytime every hour on the hour a little show happens which isn't overly exciting but still worth seeing.
