“Great rooms and location, a few growing pains”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2011

This hotel has a lot going for it and is definitely worth a look if you are going to Munich.
First off, the location is great, just a few minutes walking distance from the Ostbahnhof which offers direct connections to the airport and 5-10 minute ride to the main tourist area around Marienplatz. You can also take a train directly from here to Dachau. The surrounding neighborhood is mainly residential and was surprisingly quiet with some nice pubs and restaurants (highly recommend the Augustiner pub on Wörthstraße just a few blocks from the hotel).
The rooms themselves are quite large studios, something of a novelty in Europe, and include couch, large workstation, big wardrobe, and compact but full kitchen that comes equipped with coffeemaker, two burner stove, microwave, pots and pans, plates, bowls, glasses etc so you can save some money making food on your own if you want. The bathroom was great - double-sized shower with great water pressure and thoughtful touches like built in shelves to put your toiletries (finally enough shelf space in a hotel!). I liked the wooden flooring and it really felt cozy in the room. The windows were well soundproofed - didn't hear a thing from the street. My only complaint was that the beds are quite hard - it didn't stop me from sleeping after walking around Munich all day, but I did notice that the mattress was very firm!
Overall the rooms and location are great. Where the hotel lost a few points was in the general level of service, which is hopefully just due to it being a new property. Also, the first night there was a false fire alarm going off at midnight which led to a complete evacuation of the hotel for about 20-25 minutes (heard from others this was not the first time). Breakfast (which is a reasonable buffet of meats, cheese, eggs, sausage, fruit, cereals, juice) was overcrowded and clearing of tables was very slow. Clean silverware and napkins were not out in the open and so we ended up taking them off another table rather than wait any longer. The table next to us was cluttered with dirty dishes for over 30 minutes while people stood around waiting for somewhere to sit. It seemed like there was only one guy responsible for the whole seating area. They need more staff! Same at the front desk - lines were developing at some points and there was only one person working - in a hotel this size, that just seems like a bad idea. The sauna and steam room were also not functioning. Finally, there was absolutely zero information about the hotel in the room!! They really need to write that up so you can easily look up what time checkout is, when breakfast is open, services available, area information etc. Last quibble - the 24/7 minimart is a total ripoff - 6,50EUR for an iced tea! Definitely stock up at the train station so you don't get stuck with those prices!
The staff were cordial but a bit reserved, maybe overwhelmed.
In any case, considering the size, location and quality of the room itself and the value for what I paid, I can recommend this hotel highly and would stay here again when in Munich. Hopefully they will work out the minor problems as the hotel establishes itself.

Europe's first Residence Inn, newly open on 1-Oct, makes a fine place to spend a week. The suite is spacious and functional for extended stays. The kitchenette has high quality appliances complete with microwave, dishwasher, cooktop, and coffee machine from Nespresso. An LG LCD TV is mounted on its own rack and has hookups for HDMI, VGA, etc. The work desk is large, and the bed is more than sufficient. Breakfast includes standard pastries, cereals, meat and cheese trays, etc. The breakfast area can grow a bit crowded on busy days, so go early.

As the hotel is new, there were a couple of small hiccups - no hot water one morning (I bathed by tea kettle), and a non-functional door key coder which forced me to go next door to sister property Courtyard one night when my key stopped working. Also, one day housekeeping threw away several of my important documents one day, a problem for which the desk clerk was extremely apologetic. Otherwise, this is a fine no-nonsense hotel full of business comforts.

this a brand spanking new hotel and seems like the first residence inn in europe. it is in a great location, close to munchen ost station ( a main train station with numerous s bahn lies, a couple of u bahn lines and bus options) and in an area increasingly known for its night life. the central tourist areas os marienplatz, viktualien markets etc are close by, a couple of stations by s bahn. the staff is friendly and very helpful and prices are value for money. the breakfast is standard continental fare but the rooms are nice and sufficient. go for it.

We went to this hotel for Oktoberfest. It was only a 10 - 15 minute train ride to the festival. There is not much around there though to do at night nor are thee restaurants to eat at other than their in house restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask how far the room is from the elevator, it could be a long walk.
