Good stay in the centre of Munich

Review of Hotel Daniel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Feb 2017
This hotel is situated in the heart of Munich and close to the train station. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. A buffet breakfast was also included in the tariff. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we didn't get any traffic noise. There is also an excellent Italian restaurant near the entry and a very good coffee shop/cafe a couple of doors down. The Christmas market was right next door in the city square. It is only a moderate walk to the Hofbrauhaus and the Glockenspiel is only a short walk away. Would recommend this hotel.

This hotel has everything that you need, and nothing more. Close to the train station, but on a main street with traffic. Small lobby - and placed next to a Chinese restaurant.

I cannot complain about anything, but can hardly get excited either.

We stayed here for three nights while visiting Munich. The room was small but clean. There was a lot of traffic noise but this was due to being located on a busy road.
The location was good and close to all the main tourist attractions.
The breakfast was nice and good value.
The reception staff were very helpful and friendly.

The hotel location is good, but the hotel is old and the rooms need to get the fresh ups soon.

Beds was old and need also get some updates.

Breakfast was small but enough.

I would not select the hotel, and the reason why I was stayed the hotel was that this had rooms available with so short notise on the trip

This is a nice clean hotel in a great location, it located on karlsplatz which is basically seconds from the Christmas markets, the hotel is bed and breakfast( continental ) with cereals tea or coffee fruit juices, the room was very clean and warm the beds were comfy and the bathroom was spotless, the hotel staff were typically to the point German(matter of fact and a bit abrupt ) but not nasty it's just their way they were quite nice and helpful to be honest, we flew from Manchester to Munich then caught the S8 train from munich airport to karlsplatz stop it was straightforward and the same returning to Munich airport , all the train announcements are in German then English so it's easy to follow, you come up from the underground and the hotel is practically in front of you, Munich is an amazing place, the people are friendly the place is spotlessly clean, the shops are great but can be quite expensive, food and drink is similar to the UK prices but German beer is so much better and the food is very nice, some impressive architecture to see if your in to historic buildings and in the evening there are buskers on the streets, not someone with a guitar strumming away but proper talented musicians, we watched a guy on a grand piano accompanied by a 2 young ladies one with a violin and the other on a cello playing classical music, wanted to go there for ages and glad I did and I'll be going back

The Hotel Daniel is a fairly modern, low-cost hotel situated less than 100 metres from Karlsplatz, one of the main gates into the heart of Munich. Its location is excellent; my partner and I were visiting for the Christmas markets and we were easily able to walk everywhere we wanted to get to over 3 days. And if do you want to travel further, there is an entrance to the S-bahn and U-bahn at Karlsplatz.

We stayed in a double room which was on the 1st floor. The room was small, but more than adequate and it was clean except for hair blocking the shower drain; a small oversight that did let things down.

The room was also very noisy especially on the 1st of our 3 night stay. I'm not sure whether it was due to the central heating in the ensuite shower room of the ensuite extraction fan system. Having been awoken, and kept awake from around 04.30, this was far from satisfactory. We raised the issue with reception the following day and the issue was satisfactorily resolved by both the central heating and extractor being turned off. Central heating wasn't an issue as, despite sub-zero temperatures for most of the day bathroom remained warm.

There was also a lot of external noise from building sites too, even though we were in a room, without a view, at the back. This was a minimal issue as work and noise started around 07.30 and there was not much that the hotel owners could do to stop it other than replace all their windows with a better quality double or triple glazing.

Although we were in a double room, it consisted of 2 single beds slide together. These were not particularly comfortable either as a single or double and this has had the greatest impact on my rating. I don't need a large room with lots of facilities, but I do want a comfortable bed and a good night's sleep. There was also no tea and coffee making facility in the room. If you crave TV, this was limited to German channels only.

Other aspects of the hotel were good or very good. The shower was great; really powerful with no shortage of hot water. A safe is provided in the room and cupboard space is more than adequate for a few days or a week. All the staff were very friendly and helpful with 2 receptionists at busy times and one the rest of the time. The breakfast was plentiful with a selection of cereals, fruit salad, yogurts, cold meats and cheeses, various breads etc in abundance. It was as good as any continental breakfast I've had. Whilst there were no lunch or evening eating arrangements or bar, which some people might want, you do have all the bars and restaurants of central Munich at your beck and call.

This came so close to being a really good hotel within its category; if only the beds had been more comfortable.
