Wow. First time in a Motel One and surprised to say that it did exactly what it said on the box and probably a bit more. A 2 star ‘design-hotel’ property and not really the kind of place we would have stayed if Oktoberfest hadn’t driven hotel rates through the roof (as it always does). We walked through the doors with low expectations and got a pleasant surprise.
Every budding or established hotel brand wanting to launch/manage a budget hotel should take a long look at Germany’s Motel One; the format is an absolute winner. Clean, modern, good bed and tastefully furnished. It didn’t feel like everything came from IKEA or that costs had been cut at every corner. Breakfast was offered at a fair price, the Wi-Fi connection was good, air conditioning, big TV and a strong rain shower all capped off a great package. Cheap. Not nasty.
The location of this one was a-ok too. It’s a given that Oktoberfest was going to necessitate a move from the centre of Munich but this wasn’t really a problem. The subway entry is a 7 or so minute walk away so really not a big issue. There’s also a supermarket a few doors down so particularly handy for grabbing supplies.
If we head back to Germany then we’ll be sure to give Motel one a try again.
