Firstly, this is the best budget hotel I have stayed at in Germany. It cost 35 euros for a single room in August. If all you need is a bed with a shower in the room and an all-you-can-eat breakfast, there’s absolutely nothing to complain about.

It’s easy to get to by tram or underground (2 or 3 stops), though I wouldn’t recommend walking with heavy luggage from the main station unless you rate yourself. It’s also convenient for Königsstrasse, the university and the renowned El Greco restaurant.

On the negative side, there’s no air-con, so it gets terribly hot in the small rooms. Of course you can open the windows that look onto a women-only fitness centre, but only if you’re not sensitive to the noise of traffic outside because it’s on a main road. Another bounce-factor for some people is that the ageing carpets are matted with suspect residue.

Adding to the negative aspects, the walls between rooms are rather thin, so it could be, that like me, you have to listen to a lady next door continuously saying “ja” in long slow drones around midnight, then increasing the frequency of the “ja’s” 5 minutes later and eventually culminating in a baritone growl. There was a man there too, but he didn’t seem to have any ability vocabulary-wise until after she had almost reduced to a whimper, at which point he kept stuttering the name of a well-known biblical character.

The toilet is great: a real gem in terms of flush power, which is important if you get stuck into the Nurnberger sausages in the morning. But the design of its catchment area, which has an unsubmerged overhang, requires the guest to utilize the toilet brush provided or risk leaving a message for the maid.

WLAN connection functioned very well on the first floor in room 108. But room 108 is next to the hotel sign, so the light from it comes into your room all night giving you the feeling you’re camping in an Icelandic valley on mid-summers eve.

If you want cheap, clean-ish accommodation at a good price, then this is your target, but I wouldn’t pay more than what I did for a single.

Further away from downtown than expected, horrible hotel with no internet service in the room, only at the lobby. Nice lady staff but all the male staff are horrible. Cleaner lady is very nice but the bathroom is so old, taps with rust, there is not much she can do.

Room Tip: Must specify which type of room is required, and don't let them give you whatever they have

The rooms are a bit small but OK. The desk clerk is always busy. The railroad station is about a 25 minute walk but underground stations 10 minutes. The breakfast is fantastic. One of the best. Lots of choices so whatever you prefer is there. Of course the bacon is cooked British style. Internet is available but need to go downstairs which is nice place. No internet after the 3rd floor.

Room Tip: stay first through third floors

very terrible experience:
- long way from S-bahn station.
- the chambermaids starts to do their job after 12pm and they are making a lot o noise (slam the doors. speaks very load, listening to oriental music ....). if you are with child or you want to rest a wile..... give up.....it's impossible. they finish cleaning around 4pm.
in the morning (around 6AM) the hotel starts to smell like a big omlette and fried ham.(i've stayed on 4th floor- i dont want to imagine the smell at lower floors).
- they said that they have free internet in all hotel but the wi-fi is working only in reception
- the room was spacious but with old and abuse furniture.
- the bed linen were gray (initial colour white...) also the towels
- the elevator not reach 4 and 5 floor
only thing good: the breakfast.

We booked this hotel based on the nice overall presentation for a one night stay. We asked for a twin bedroom and we got a closet (Room 412) with two small single beds. Not only the room was ridiculously small but the furniture was old and worn out. We asked the receptionist to change us into a larger room but the guy lied and said all rooms were occupied. We were informed by another receptionist the next morning that he could have changed us into another room because we arrived early and rooms were available then. Good breakfast, location, etc.. doesn't overcome the feeling that you had been badly degraded and humiliated. Avoid room number x12.
