We have just spent two nights in Hotel Schonberger Hof in Heidelberg. This hotel is very centrally located, however, I would not stay here again as it has absolutely no hotel facilities whatsoever. The entrance is quite shabby, I even wondered whether or not it was an hotel - certainly not inviting or welcoming. A short flight of stone stairs led up to ' reception ' which was merely an office. The receptionist was very friendly, helpful and efficient. The only facility was this 'office' - no waiting areas, no easy chairs , no lounge, no drinks available - not even tea or coffee ! There is no lift in the building so we had a very steep climb up to the third floor - so when I came down in the morning - that was it for the day ! There really wasn't the sense of being in an hotel - they merely offer 'rooms' full stop ! Breakfast was buffet style but nothing interesting, in fact it was so poor we didn't bother going for it on the second morning. I booked this hotel after reading good reviews about it on some site - I cannot remember which site . When I am booking hotels I try to investigate them thoroughly by reading through all the sites.
