It was our first time to Lyon and I booked the Hotel de la Cite after doing my usual internet research. Got a great deal of Euro100 per night per room including breakfast, beautifully packed picnic lunch, and free tickets to the Lyon hop on hop off.
The room was quite basic but very clean and of good size. We all loved the picnic lunch they packed for us and it was more than enough for 6 people. They came in picnic backpacks which had special compartments for the utensils : tomato and mozza salad, smoked salmon sandwiches and strawberries for dessert! We took them to the park across the hotel and just hung out in the grass (the front desk gave us blankets to lay out,)
It's not in the middle of the city but Lyon is small and it was only a 5 minute train ride to get into the middle of everything. This is a convention complex so there also several places to eat right in the area.
