“Cooking competent, service not so much...”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

The last time I was in the restaurant the cuisine Epicurean presented, as always, competent. The mi-cuit foie gras with figs was sublime. The roasted whole dorade perfect and great desserts. However the service was not satisfactorily. We wait long for our orders were recorded and the kitchen too slow to deliver them.

“Unique menu, unusually enthusiastic service”
Reviewed 14 November 2011

We happened across this restaurant on a Sunday night, and were pleasantly surprised. We had a young & energetic server who encouraged us to sit outside, as the restaurant provides blankets so one doesn't get to cold. The menu features a lot of game and less well known meats (such as civet) in interesting preparations. All of our dishes, including the agneau croustillant, were great, and the fact that they were able to accommodate two allergies (one celiac and one allergic to mushrooms) was hugely appreciated.

Based upon how crowded the place was when we left, it's clear this is a local favorite.

“Very noisy at lunchtime when the market is packing up.”
Reviewed 11 July 2011

It has a good reputation locally but I think because of the evening service. At the time I went there (lunch) it was average - food average, service average for france (that is to say poor by uk/usa standards). As has been noted they serve in the market place, under the awnings in summer.

“Fine food, friendly service, indoors and outdoors”
Reviewed 15 August 2010

In town for a conference, this was one of the restaurants recommended. The tables are attractive - inside the building or out on the walkway (and also under the outdoor roof that looks like it might cover an outdoor market - with cloth tablecloths. The seating has a slightly formal feel, but the place is very comfortable and casual. Two of us were together. For a starter we shared a plate with toasted St. Marceline cheese, local sausage, lettuce and walnuts. We are not sausage-eaters, but the local variety was remarkable and good. For a main course one had roasted duck fillet with mushrooms and sarladaises potatoes (a local specialty). The duck was done to perfection, tender and very flavorful. The mushrooms were of a type we had not seen before, very dark, delicate and fulled with flavor. They seemed to be a bit salty for our taste, but excellent. The other dish was risotto of shells with lobster sauce. This was a risotto with tiny shellfish, also excellent. We asked the waiter for a wine recommendation. He made one, but discovered that they were out - so, he substituted a higher priced wine and charged the same price as the original wine that was ordered. The whole experience was very pleasant, the service was prompt but not intrusive and the food was first-rate. We would be happy to return.
