Have just spent 5 days at the Sofitel it is a lovely hotel with some amazing views. I would recommend the breakfast at 26 euros each it is well worth it. Whilst the food in the restaurant is exquiste you pay a hefty price for it and personally had just as nice a meal in the port for a third of the cost. The beds are amazing so comfy the room was nicely cleaned everyday. If you want a snack you cant go wrong with the tapas in the lounge very tasty and reasonably priced. All in all the hotel deserves the 5 star it is awarded.

Ok - this is a very pleasant, large, business hotel. It just isn't very interesting and I'm slightly baffled by the rave reviews on Tripadvisor.
The room was comfortable (the bed, exceptionally so). The bathroom was well equipped and spacious. The air conditioning in our room was ineffective and was not repaired, despite a call to reception.
On a hot day, the pool area was desperately overcrowded so as to make it virtually unusable.
We've stayed other Sofitels and visit the one in London from time to time. The Marseille outpost is very similar to the others, except on this occasion the usually slick service was lacking. By way of example, it took a baffling 9 hours and three requests to have our luggage brought from the front door to our room.
The service in the bar was staggeringly incompetent and the bar food menu was poor. (Avoid the sushi - some of the worst I've ever encountered but at eye watering prices).
On a positive note, the concierge was excellent. He was charming and secured us an excellent table at nearby Peron, which was superb.
Overall, I would say this hotel is fine. Big, clean, comfortable, a nice view - but that's about it. I find it difficult to heartily recommend or to envisage rushing back in a hurry.

The hotel is very good, with the category and attention carachteristics of the Sofitel chain. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The room huge, clean and confortble. The breakfast is excellent. We recommend!

Room tip: Rooms overlooking the Marina have the best view

Stayed at the Sofitel Vieux Port twice -- once in July 2011 and most recently in July 2012. On both occasions, the hotel was comfortable, clean, and well-positioned for exploring Marseille.

Rooms are plush, functional, and quiet. On both occasions, I had a room with a large terrace overlooking the magnificent old port. Beginning and ending each day with that view was particularly memorable. The early-evening summer sunlight over the old port is glorious.

Staff are pleasant, friendly and helpful. Breakfast each morning at Les Trois Forts on the top floor was satisfying and abundant.

Definitely the best hotel option when visiting Marseille.

Room tip: Rooms, preferably with a terrace, facing the port are ideal.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It is a very smart nicely laid out 5 star hotel. The location is great as you can walk to the port in 5 minutes and there are many restaurants, bars and shops there so can get anything you need. The room size was a bit small but the bathroom size was large and strangely very large compared to the room size! The bathroom amenities are all very much 5 star and were well laid out. We had the Rain shower which was very good and had very good water pressure. The only strange thing in this 5 star hotel was that the TV channels did not include Sky news but only CNN and BBC. The other strange part was that although the internet was free it was a limited speed and if you wanted fast speeds you needed to pay for it. The hotel restaurant was very smart but also very expensive so we chose not to eat there. I would recommend this hotel but must say that it is expensive.
