If you’re struggling to narrow down your property search in this beautiful and fascinating region, please let me help. If what you’re looking for is a stunning, private villa that combines comfort, style and thoughtful design then you’ve found it. La Sonine is so sensitively appointed and so intelligently equipped that it offers endless possibilities for coming together with family and friends, whatever the season, whatever the time of day, whatever the mood. In the variable temperatures of early May, we had long, leisurely breakfasts al fresco on the kitchen terrace; languished on sunbeds in the upper garden after swimming in the irresistible salt-water pool; enjoyed smart dinners in the simple and intimate dining room, and a glass of red wine beside the roaring fire in the end alcove of the simple but elegant sitting room. All of these spaces we filled with endless conversation, music and laughter, but you might be there at the right time of year to also benefit from the roof terraces off the upper bedrooms, the covered terrace from the sitting room, the TV room…
And for those times when you need a little solitude with your book or your diary or (dare I say it?) your emails, there are similar welcoming places, not least a generous hammock, plentiful seating about the garden, and (if you’re really serious about those emails) a study area with desk.
We balanced our week between luxuriating in the house and gardens and exploring the area both on foot (St Paul de Vence, La Colombe d’Or, the Fondation Maeght) and by car (Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer, and the eastern end of the Côte d’Azur). I’ve rarely been more reluctant to close the door behind me at the end of a holiday. Enjoy!
P.S. The photos really do NOT do the place justice.
Located in beautiful, calm woodland, La Sonine is tastefully furnished and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and garden. There are two fridge-freezers, two ovens, a microwave and an induction hob, along with enough crockery, cutlery, glassware and utensils for a large group. Whatever the season, you will be neither too hot nor too cold due to underfloor heating and air conditioning. There is a maxi-screen TV with satellite channels and a large selection of DVDs, and a good selection of toys, games and books for both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor heated pool is of a good size and the garden provides a beautiful setting for barbecues and meals on the terrace. The villa is 5 minutes from St Paul de Vence, 10 minutes from Vence and a large supermarket, within easy reach of other hilltop villages and 20 minutes from Nice. It couldn't be in a better location. Highly recommended.
La Sonine surpassed all our expectations. We had a fabulous stay here, the setting is quiet, tranquil and right on the edge of the forest but with St Paul de Vence a short walk away with great shopping and cuisine to suit various wallets. However the kitchen in the house is so well organised and equipped that with the barbeque outside it is a pleasure to cook and eat at home. The pool is brilliant and the perfect depth for playing water volley ball and marco polo. For the readers and sunbathers they basked on the loungers looking glam. Badminton on the bottom lawn was a big hit too and table tennis was also much in demand. The bedrooms are lovely, very cool in temperature and super stylish in look and the beds are extremely comfortable. We all played endless games and read, there is an abundance of books and games available. The Fondation Maeght is inspirational, so close and definitely worth visiting, Great for the kids too of any age, another easy walk. The owners seem to have thought of everything to make a home to better home experience. 5 STAR***** Thank you!
Firstly I am not totally impartial as this is my brother's house. I have stayed here several times, both in the summer and winter and both are marvellous in their different ways. The area is stunning from the classic coastline to the mountains just 20 minutes drive away. The towns and restaurants are fantastic. The summer I just love the combination of peaceful lounging by the pool or retreating to the shade or hammock. You are not overlooking or overlooked by anyone else. 3 meals a day al fresco. There is loads of room and a new kitchen. Great TV in the basement to keep kids occupied in the evenings. Strolling into St Paul de Vence for evening boule and rose is one of life's pleasures.
Winters are also superb and they do have a serious fireplace to enjoy. All in all highly recommended.
