“Lovely hotel with the best location possible.”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

This hotel has an excellent location on the Promenade Des Anglais, just 5 to 10 minutes walk to the old town and about 10 minutes walk to the train station. Try to get a room with pool or sea view as we had one at the back of the hotel which just overlooks an ugly terrace and the backs of apartments, this didnt cause a problem as we went in April and wouldnt be sitting out in the evening but had we gone in the height of summer and wanted to sit out and have a drink then it would have been a different matter. The beds are really comfy, nice room with plenty of space for extra roll out bed for daughter and bathroom a good size too with separate bath and shower. There was some maintenance work being carried out when we went but we were offered a free trip out to Cannes or Monaco, we chose Monaco and our driver and guide was a local man called Olly, he was full of knowledge and facts about the areas we went to, one piece of advice being not to eat or drink in the restaurants and coffee shops on the front around our hotel as the locals refer to the coffee as "sock juice". There are lots of little restaurants and bars in the narrow side streets of the old town that are lovely to sit outside and are reasonably priced unlike the cafe on the beach not far from the hotel where a vodka and coke cost 16.50 euros!!! The restaurant at the hotel was excellent but there wasnt that much that a young child would eat. Nice pool area and outside seating, staff very helpful, no complaints with the hotel at all and checking in and out was quick and easy. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone but I would say to make sure you ask for a non smoking room if you dont smoke, we met an Australian couple who had their room changed as they were given a smoking one and as they dont smoke the smell was unbearable, luckily we got one but I hadnt thought to ask when booking. We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel as we preferred to find a nice little cafe somewhere so cannot comment on the breakfast apart from saying that at 27 euros each and there being 3 of us then 81 euros for breakfast seems a bit extreme.

Room Tip: Specifically ask for non smoking if you aren't a smoker. Try and get a sea/pool view as the view...

Palais has a great location right by old town, and right on promenade de anglais which is definitely the best place to stay in nice. The hotel is very nice, clean and friendly. Concierge is great and helped us out many times. However, at close to 500 euro/night all in I just don't think it's worth it. The valet parking, while convienant is overpriced at 30 euro/night. The sea view rooms barely have any view of the sea as the columns blocks it all (at least from the room we had, room 817). The rooms are nice, but nothing grand, and we could very clearly hear the people in the room next to us every time they spoke. We also had problems with the ac in our room. The pool is very cool, and the breakfast, which was included in our price, was excellent. overall, the palais is a good hotel, and the staff are great, so we were happy with our stay, but in my opinion its a 4 star, not 5, and there may be better value stays in nice

Dear "Thezman74",

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a feedback about your experience at the Palais de la Méditerranée.

We are glad that you enjoyed our outstanding location, the hotel itself, the staff and the breakfast.

Even if our historical façade may obstructs partially the sea view (depending from the floor and from the type of rooms), it also makes our property a unique venue!

We have taken good note of your comments concerning the valet parking. Also, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the deficient AC and the cold swimming pool.
Your feedback is very important to us, as we strive to provide our guests with the highest quality of service. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence.

We hope to welcome you again soon at the Palais de le Méditerranée.

Sincerely,

Emilie

We checked into two rooms for our family of four who are travelling throught the south of france over easter.

Upon checking in the service at the front desk was exceptional with all staff behind the desk being very helpful and very accomodating considering our poor french speaking. Check in was quick and easy, particularly after a 27 hour flight from Australia so we really appreciated the great service.

Overall, the rooms and the hotel are in a great location and met all our holiday requirements.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and I would have to say it was one of the best breakfast services we have had ever in Europe and the hotel should be comended on its excellent service and range of food.

Kids enjoyed the indoor swimming pool and enjoyed all the facilities of the hotel.

The best part of the hotel is the location which cant get any better - right on the beach and close to all other facilities

Couldnt recommend this hotel highly enough - predominantly becauase of its service which based on our experience in France on occassions is often hard to find.

4.5 stars - excellent value

Room Tip: Our rooms were on level 7 which are partial ocean views. The outside facade blocked most of the sea...

I spent the Easter weekend with my parents at the Palais de la Mediterrannee which is wonderful. The hotel has an art deco facade which is on the street level. The rest of the old building was demolished and a new one erected quite recently. The hotel has lovely rooms with contemporary decor with the views of the sea. We stayed on the 7th floor in the sea-facing room which meant that we could still see the facade of the hotel in front of us through which the sea was visible. The swimming-pool and the terrace of the restaurant were below. If you stayed in the rooms on the 8th floor and above the sea-view would not be obstructed in any way. The staff is very helpful, and often quite charming, and speaks all major European languages. The breakfast was very good and the Easter brunch - superb. The great weather helped as did the jazz band which was playing live. There is a heated swimming-pool and the gym. Neither was crowded but it might be different in high season. Even though it was Easter and the hotel appeared to have quite a lot of guests it did not feel crowded or noisy in any way. My only wish would be for a bottle of water to be provided in a room on daily basis. As it was we only got the water on the day when we arrived. It felt very strange for this to be happening in a hotel of such standard.

There is a casino next door to the hotel but we were not bothered by it.

I will stay there again when in Nice.

Many thanks for this detailed comment. We are pleased to know that you appreciated our hotel, its staff and its services.
We have taken good note of your request concerning the bottle of water. Until today, this service was provided during the summer season only. We are now planning to offer it all year long.
We look forward to welcoming you soon at the Palais de la Méditerranée.
Sunny regards,
Emilie

We booked a room at the hotel for one night before a flight from Nice. We were upgraded to a sea view room on the 9th floor. Great view, comfortable room and good service. No complaints at all.
Great location on promenade des Anglais- slightly scary seagulls- watch your breakfast if eating outside!!
